I live in Dublin and burn wood, firelogs and briquettes without any problem, but was looking up the uk regulations and they seem to be quite confusing.

anyway seeing as it's getting to that time of year again, i dont know if this guide will be helpful to any uk members:

UK Smoke Control Areas - Defra, UK

yep helpful for me.....

as i am thinking about opening my fire place back up to burn logs.

the only thing is i live in a smoke free zone so i think i could get into trouble...

Wish someone would make this a smokeless zone - fooking neighbours seem to burn just about everything including shitty nappies !

i'm sure there's some sort of rules about burning plastic, even if it isn't a smoke free zone, if you look into it.

nappies are full of chemicals and i'm pretty sure you aren't supposed to burn them. even if you mention to her that burning them releases carcinogens into the air that could be inhaled by her baby it might be enough to get her to stop?

Somehow I doubt it. Dont think i've ever seen her without a fag dangling from her mouth !

My next door neighbour loves burning stuff..................... I love burning stuff.................. but he uses a chiminea and it smells absolute rank and the smoke always comes over my property. It's hideous in summer when it's hot as I need the windows open to cool the house down but the smoke makes the rooms smell disgusting for days so I'm trapped. I can't dry my clothes on the line because they get covered in the smell nor can I use my drier because I need the window open to vent.

I had a night out earlier in the year and when I got home I could smell that he'd had his chiminea going. I can deal with it but we had our sheets and bed spread on the line drying and they were ruined. Smoke and soot all over and he didn't care nor think to knock the door to tell my wife of his intentions so she could get the sheets in.

I hate confrontation but I was absolutely hammered and had a go at him over the fence. He didn't care which made me angry so I charged around there to have it out with him. Bit of a fuss but we managed to not beat the hell out of each other and I basically said that if you want to burn crap then let us know so we can prepare the house.

They called the police who came about 30 minutes later but they were really good and ended up siding with me.

He's had one session since then. Last year it was every weekend.

/I've not had a fire since.
