Hi All

just came home from night shift to find a small drip fom landing, checked in loft and found tank had overfilled and float valve not working !!!

The ceiling has not collapsed but had sagged (plasterboard).

I have propped it up with a ladder/books until it drys.....

What can i paint over it with to strengthen it and cover the cracks ?

Is there some sort of 'thick' white paint or something ??

Cheers

If the plasterboard has come away from the joists I'd think it good practice to replace them. A few sheets and a quick plaster shouldn't cost too much money whereas falling plasterboards with cloat nails could prove to be costly.

It has slightly blown from rafters, i just do not want the mess of plastering tbh.

I was looking to add a few more plasterboard screws and paint/fill over.

I ended up drilling a hole and slapped a bucket underneath.............lol

the plasterboard will be weak now and pointless putting extra screws in as the plaster board will just break away easily due to the water. i would just get another sheet, foil back this time though so any leaks wont damage the board. i put foil back plasterboards on all my ceilings :proud:

Sadly you will need to plaster m8, even if you got the plaster board back up to the joists. You can always claim it on insurance and have a pro do it for you.

If you think you can get away with replacing or re-fixing the plasterboard and just want to paint it, treat it with "stain block" or if you can't get that, oil based white undercoat. You can then over-paint it with white emulsion once dry. If you do it with white emulsion without first treating it, the stain will come through.

It has got one hell of a sag in it now, might just reboard it and go over with universal as i can work with that.

It's just the mess as i have all new cream carpets and walls recently painted.

Still going to stick a load plasterboard screw in for time being.

If you're worried that it may fall just screw some 2x1's crossed with the joists, that should hold up the plasterboard no problem.
