I'm inquisitive as to how people these days protect their laptop/PC.

Which software do you use and do you use windows built in protection ?. Also, d0 you use real time protection ?.
There's so many different programs its a minefield so I'm interested as to how you keep those pesky little viruses at bay

i use Kaspersky Total Security , with Trial Reset tool ;)

Oh and , how intrusive are they ? , do they slow the PC up and stop you doing

Kaspersky Total Security and also Malwarebytes Antimalware.

AVG Free for me, also update & run Spybot S&D and Malwarebytes (both free) couple of times a month.
HH.

I don't use any and haven't for a long time, over a decade maybe. I keep full disk images and also file backups, there is nothing I can't replace on any PC.

I do use cracked software so there are some risks but if you download from sources which have comments (I use torrents) you can get a feel of how safe something is. Something else you can do is install on a virtual machine to test and scan if you want then the performance of your machine isn't affected.

I did get something nasty on my PC a couple of years ago, I think it might have been from an Office activator before I realised which one was the real Loader. It was even moving the mouse randomly so I couldn't click on things. I just rebooted and F8 into Acronis recovery :).

eset smart security privacy badger profile spoofing track off & common sense

Interesting, some prefer to just go cautious while some have the Great Wall of China. I suppose it's down to the user and what he's got to protect on his system.

Personally I found Kaspersky abit too much with it's pop ups and warnings but that's me.

Another question to all, do you use any of Windows options ?

Malwarebytes and Windows Defender

Trust windows........nahhhhhh, avg is for me

Funnily enough I dumped AVG because of all the nag screens and constantly trying to hijack browsers, search engine etc. Running barefoot now (common sense prevails) and as @Spectre says, nothing is irreplaceable.

I use BitDefender. Good thing is that it doesn't slow anything down.
Wouldn't use a Russian company to look after my on-line security or am I just paranoid?
