Chromecast wont connect

I cant seem to get chromecast to work with new laptop Windows 8.1

Ive followed some instructions and its set to ON but still no luck even after reboots

Ive also read of problems connecting via 5G so I connected normally but still no go

I can connect via my phone app but not via the new laptop chrome app
worked fine on my other laptop running Windows 7

any ideas ?

wish I could share how lol just clicked around casted a you tube video and it worked
and on 5G

Stopped working again :err:
will only show in cast extension in Chrome if the chromecast app is open on my phone :err: soon as the phone sleeps cast goes off via laptop

I see there was a video on youtube with the same problem but he said he fixed it by changing his router

the chromecast is showing as connected in my router and it worked on my W7 laptop

Any ideas ?

I have 3 chromecast devices but only having problems with the one that is powered by the TV USB others ones connected using power adapter and work with no issues at all.

From what you saying it sounds like its connecting to your phone you sure guest mode isnt enabled? I got Win 8.1 laptop and can use chrome extension in browser etc without my phone.

Try force update and turn phone wifi off then use youtube on laptop and see if it will allow you to cast. Also try using power cable rather power from TV usb if that's how it is connected.

I have had issues with my Chromecast. The issue where the guy on youtube said he had to change his router is the same reason Chromecast doesn't work in Hotels its something along the lines of the segmentation the router is doing with the different connections over wifi. If you are on the LAN part of your router it wouldn't be an issue but since Chromecast uses wifi you just need a new modem.

Also there have been some stray updates going on lately that have caused bunches of Chromecasts to start acting up. Google haven't publicly addressed it but if you search around a bit about "chromecast not working after update" you'll see really it could be any number of things thats going wrong.

Lets know if you get it sorted.

thing is @colin300 nothing has changed with the router its since I changed to a new windows 8.1 laptop that the issues started

I will fire up my old W7 laptop and see if it works then, but it did thats time it was on

its enabled
