Software Software to detect monitor

A few years back I had a Toshiba TV that had trouble handshaking with the PC so I used this simple little exe program that refreshed something and the TV was detected properly. I can't remember however what it was called, and a search on Google just pulls in a load of irrelevant information. Does this sound familiar to anyone or does anybody know of something similar?
