what can I build as a gaming pc for a budget of 300 quid

no monitor keyboard or mouse required just good old base unit

Done 2 builds for you, not entirely happy with either, but for different reasons.

Intel i3 rig: Lists | Ebuyer.com
- The graphics on the i3 APU isn't good enough for gaming and the H61 chipset is the most basic one. Despite going for the i3, a budget chipset and a 250GB hard drive the need for a gaming GPU has pushed it over budget by £50.
AMD A10 rig: Lists | Ebuyer.com
- The A10 APU's Radeon HD 7660d graphics are good enough for gaming, but the cost is extra power draw. Whilst the 500W PSU will handle it; more power, equals more heat to dissipate.

If the need is immediate, I think I'd go for the AMD and save for a ~£200 discrete GPU. However, if it's not urgent, I'd hold off, still save the £200, as a £500 rig will get you a whole lot more.

The AMD A10 spec you listed, priced is up on CCL and came to 250 quid - which is 50 quid cheaper than EBuyer and I live 5 miles away from them so can collect.

Sorry, I should have said - I use Ebuyer only as a guide of what goes together, because they allow you to save the basket as a list. The website PCPartPicker.com also does a similar thing, but with the added advantage of comparing across multiple sites.

I've just never been comfortable in recommending spreading a computer purchase across multiple companies. I also prefer all parts to turn up together. It also prevents unscrupulous sellers from suggests the part from another company is the fault of an RMA problem (tends to only happen with ebay these days).
