Need a Switch... but what one ?

Hi peeps,

Need to fit a switch upstairs as ive run out of ports on my router ! lol

Im going to wire up the 3 bedroom with cat6, have cctv dvr plugged in as well so need min of 4 ports upstairs.... altho would like 8.

What do you guys suggest that is cheap, very easy to use and ideally plug and play.

Pick the cheapest. There's no performance advantage in paying more.

It depends on how fussy you are really, I bought a 10 quid one from the Bay and have never had a problem with it tbh,

You can spend more on brand names or gigabit ones so just depends on how much you want to spend

im watching this cos il be needing one soon but a 8 port

ive peeps mentioning tp link and some swear by them and had no probs

That will do the job but if you don't need gigabit then it's twice as much as you need to spend

TP-Link is fine. You could pay more and get one with a metal case and a build-in PSU if you wanted.

The next step up would be a managed switch but there really is not need for one of those at home.

For what you want the TP Link should be fine, but to be fair at that end of the price range pretty much any dumb switch/hub will be sufficient (Netgear, Zyxel, Belkin etc), personally just try to steer clear of cheap Chinese no name imports.

In terms of a managed switch at home, the average Joe doesn't need one, but it depends who you are

Yep got the PM's just gotta get my arse to the postie, the transformer is quite heavy but as long as its doesnt cost a fortune I'll bare it in mind if I ever need a fave

If ya need few quid not a problem mate dont use paypal sadly, but can pay money direct into bank for you ? got most the main brances just up the road.
