I have noticed that everyone in this forum is always recommending different operating systems, and I thought it might be a good idea to bring all the arguments together into one topic.
So vote in the poll and then reply with your reason why.
I vote Vista, because although I run XP, if my PC could handle it I would run Vista. And I intend to switch to Vista when I buy my next new computer. My reason for choosing Windows though is that it is compatible, it is easy to use for since I have been running it for 10 years, it can run basically everything I need, including office 2007 and msn 8, which you can't get for anything else. Plus it can run Adobe CS3, it can play lots of movie types, is good for doing downloading and stuff. It does not crash and get viruses as people seem to say it does.
I would also run Mac OS X on a laptop if I could afford to have two computers, but I can't lol.
So what would you rather run?

XP Pro on my main machine but I have other PCs with other OSs installed including Linux and even Windows 98SE. I also have a notebook running Vista.

I need to use some programs which are only available for Windows and I didn't want to have to use WINE under a GNU/Linux OS.

They all have their pros and cons so it depends on what you want to use your machine for. If you do a lot of browsing, some email and the occasional spreadsheet and letter then you might be better off with a Linux distribution. If you want the very latest hardware, especially graphics, they you might find better support under a M$ OS.

You can use Pigeon for Linux, which is an instant messenger type program.

If you don't want to multi-boot but want to try more OS then get another HDD and use Acronis True Image Server to take images of your HDD to it and then you can swap between them in a few minutes.

i have dual boot, window xp and vista. i vote of winxp. but vista getting better

i've chose xp even though i run vista dunno why i just prefer xp so gonna install that as well

ive gone for xp i did try vista a few months bk but didnt like it , most of my hardware ( mostly belkin wireless usb ) didnt work & belkin didnt know if/when they would release compatible drivers cause theres new 1s out that will work, so thought better of it & stuck 2 xp

maybe after its been out 12/18 months ill give it another go

on XP at the mo

but soon going to move to max os x leopard

XP for me, Vista offers me nothing new but requires a shite load more resources.

linux is fundamentally brilliant but yet i cant stand it, its too "flaky"

im looking forward to a public release of microsoft's singularity os (if it ever does come public)

any OS pre-2k was nothing but a building block (GUI wise)

WinXP, Win2000, Ubuntu, Red Hat, Slackware, Solaris, AIX, freeBSD.

I only run wintel for apps i cannot run on *nix.

The machine I am using at the moment is a laptop with Ubuntu.

On my main pc i have a winxp(x86) system drive with another copy of xp(x86) as a test bed XP(x64) and Vista x86 Ultimate. Will be putting a copy of Vista x64 aswell as soon as i can be bothered.

On my TV machine i use mainly Vista Ultimate x86.

Forget XP x64. i have a asus sriker extreme i had so many driver problems it is unreal.

It prob the same for Vista 64???? Ill let u all know.

i picked windows vista in the poll
but have windows xp and ubuntu on the same pc
that makes no sense.

i voted Linux,
i use mandriva2006 on 3 machines.
it's old, but it took a while to get it how i like. :)

Got XP on my PC.
Win98 on my laptop, will probably put linux on it when I get it back from my sister as M$ no longer support 98.

I recently had to install Windows 98. On a completely clean installation, the first thing i did was open my computer. It told me I had performed an illegal operation, and rebooted. That was on a clean installation lol.

lol,
there was an old joke in the 98 days,

i got a new printer, it said on the box "only works with windows-98 or better" so i installed Linux
it was pretty funny at the time, till they invented win-modems! :puke:
