Hi my pc keeps freezing out the blue its weird
say im playing music the music will carry on playing i can press unm lock key and the light will go on and off i can move the mouse but if i click anything nothing happens, nothing happens if i press ctrl+alt+del
I have checked temp and max it goes to is about 36 'C so im douting it can be that
ive done all the scans such as virus, spyware and disk scan but no difference

dose any one have any ideas what can be causing my comp to freeze and alot of the time it happens when i run msn messenger but i have uninstall and reinstalled it with no difference

-Thanks

If pc overheats, try opening it up and clean all the fans from dust by vacumming and blowing it off with compressed air bottles, and if advanced enough add extra fan to the body, if pc still freezes up try to completley reistall the system - clean install, that should take care of most problems

I had this once and it was a faulty ide cable. Not the ribbon type, but the round type.

Just random lockups and I couldn't understand it.

If you have a spare ide cable (or two in your machine) try swapping them over.

i got 2gb ram in there
my comp isnt connected by ide but by sata cables
is 36'C overheating? the system is brand new all the fans are sparkling clean - i might look into adding more fans but i dont think it will make much difference

coud it be bad ram or cpu > is there anyway to test this?

What CPU are you using intel/AMD? also maybe try defragmenting ur disks.

Avg Fee exition 7.5
Winxp Pro(version 2002) service pack2
Asus M2N-MX Socket AM2 Motherboard
Amd Athlon 64 x2 duel core 600+ 3ghz
2Gb ram
500gb sata2 hdd

ok im going to run a stress test on it now but all the hardware is new so should be fine

will report back in a few min

could msn messenger be causing the problem just when i run it my comp freezes like 70% of the time weird i know

test seems to be running on and on how long should i run them for and do they end?

Boot a live distribution of GNU/Linux and run it for the day... doing your "usual" tasks. If it doesn't lock up it may be the OS conflicting with hardware... if it does lock up... you have faulty hardware ;) Atleast you will know for sure.

If it is still not locking up, INSTALL GNU/Linux and try again.

Had a look at your motherboard and apparently it looks like there was a known defect with RAM SLOT A and it doesn't like memory in it.

HAve a read of the reviews, quite a few people with freezing problems etc.

ok my board seems to boot and run fine unlike the other people who are havign a problem with slotA - i have 2 x 1Gb sticks can i put them in slot B+C or should i do b+D?

-Thanks

Is it freezing with the same progs running or is it just random?

most of the time with msn messenger running like when ive just signed in
its happoened twice without msn running tho

I had a problem like that and it ended up being the sound driver conflicting with something else ( cant remember what ) . I disabled most of my start up progs with msconfig then added them one at a time until the system crashed again. Maybe not the best way but it worked for me.

you could also try using one memory stick at a time just incase one stick is faulty

Check PSU

Have you just updated your gfx card or added a drive etc.
What power supply do you have?

Upgrades could have drained the power supply or it may be failing under load.

erm... never thought of that

im just using onboard sound and im pretty sure the psu was ok for board but will double check later

try booting up into safe mode and run for a while, if this stops the freezing then try booting with only certain drivers eg network drivers, vga drivers etc....it's probably ur vga driver if u have recently updated try rolling back to previous version or if there's a later version out try that.

other thing to look at does the bios need updating...i've recently had to do this...pc wasn't freezing but there were other issues with some components...

hope this helps
