been looking to connect my pc to my hifi for some time, but dont know where to start. I think the easiest way would be to get a soundcard with rca phone leads but are there any other ways,

Get a stereo phono to RCA lead

Then simply plug phono end into audio out on soundcard, and connect RCA's to HIFI.

thanks but i think i will have to buy another soundcard as i dont have any rca outputs on my soundcard

So, black end into audio out on soundcard, RCA's go onto hifi end.

any other ideas appriecaited

cheers

creative audio ones are good, if your Hi-Fi has an optical in you will not loose any sound quality at all!

I really dont see the point in stuff like this if you already own a PC.

I guess the advantage of something like this is if your PC is noisy and you want to use something silent.

With any kind of electrical connection the qulaity will reduce after the connection point. Is it possible for the human ear to notice any difference? I'd say no, this is the method I use to connect my PC to HIFI, sounds very clear if I listen to a good quality MP3.

I use a Creative Audigy soundcard wich has a very impressive SNR, so can't comment on other soundcards but i'd say as a general rule that even on-board soundcards are of high quality nowadays and for thrashing some tunes out this is just fine (unless you are a hi-fi nut who pays a extra £200 just for a kettle style plug that is oxygen free and plated with very conductive material)

the thing copper to be called copper has to be 99.99999% pure so that means all electrical copper is pure OFC...its a bit of a con.

I am a hifi buff, my speaker cable cost 80 quid for 12 meters, but thats to do with the insulation and he draw of the wire...

feck paying 200 quid for an IED lead when at the back of the plug is STD rwin and earth with a dodgy screw.....

Sorry for the slight hijack and rant...lol

thanks for all the advice, im just gonna hook up my current sound card to my hi fi and take it from there

I like my hi-fi's too, but never laughed so hard when I saw the £200 power cable in what hi-fi mag...

I agree with speaker cable, there is going to be a obvious difference between bell wire and 4-guage thickness. But there are some speaker wires that are just outragious!!!!!

8 meters of Chord Odyssey Stereo Speaker Cable for £274. FOOK THAT!

gotta love the selling points though:-

Chord Odyssey has a twisted pair construction with Teflon insulation and no outer sleeve in order to keep capacitance low, and maintain a consistently low dielectic constant. Each conductor consists of 19 0.045mm strands of oxygen free copper. These are heavily silver plated, as most of the signal travels on the conductors' surface.
