If you are having problems playing vcds on your stand alone dvd player (sony, toshiba) this might be due to the type of disc your using. Try recording your vcd onto princo gold (cd-r74) these dics use Phtalocyanine Type 8 dye which can make them easier to read. Also datasafe work on my tosh (made by princo). These disc cost around 24p.
SVP communications are selling a sample pack of various disc types for £3.50, you might find one that works for your player.
www.business-ecommercesoftware.co.uk/business/svpcomm/index.html
if you still cant play vcd then you'll need a new player, but at least you tried.

Trying to save you money.
