You'll probably get a letter asking you to pay import tax and a royal mail charge very soon.

I got caught like this a few years ago on my daughters prom dress from china, I phoned and ask why to which I was told they do it randomly and I was the unlucky one that day :( , looks like its your turn m8, don't think you will get away with it, they will charge you import tax.

I found a dhl pay now page and put my tracking/waybill number in and guess what they want £29 off me, when I ordered the item it was free delivery so should the seller not pay the £29 as ita not free if there is a £29 charge

usually for the second msg, that means you had import charges. well thats the case in ireland.

did you pay the import charges?

No I was waiting for a letter or some kind of invoice, and received the above SMS, so checked the tracking and this is what is states so I guess I'm getting it today

it looks like you are and you got away without paying customs for it.

they may of gotten the info off the seller and realised the value was below the custom value range, they dont do that in ireland but could be different in the UK. has to be below €40 in ireland, to be exempt from customs tax. i dont know what it is in the UK

I contacted the seller and told him what the tracking stated and he said be patient it will be with me by the end of week hopefully I get it today with no extra charges

Having an item delivered is no guarantee that you have evaded duty. I have once received a £46 bill about a fortnight later.

What would happen if you didn't pay it

thats was the case in Ireland but not anymore. they wont give you the item in Ireland unless you pay the customs owed on it first and the buyer has to show proof of purchase and it must state the value of the item.

i couldnt see that being different in the UK. i would love to know if thats still the case and ill get my stuff sent to the UK first then to me.:hubbahubba:

I got hit with an import charge of €80 a month ago for an item that cost €165. they pull the fees out of thin air id say.
