From April anyone prosecuted for not having a valid licence could avoid an automatic fine by receiving a conditional discharge instead.
The move is intended to take account of those people who cannot afford to pay a court fine, as well as showing some leniency to those who are considered to be the least serious offenders.

With more than 180,000 people charged each year for not paying this tv tax.
That turns out to be 1 in 10 criminal cases every year in England and Wales alone!!!

(hopefully we are seeing the end of this money racket)!!!!
(I'm not asking for it) BUT HAVE TO PAY?

TV licence evaders could get off with slap on the wrist after new sentencing guidelines are introduced

Let's hope this law gets changed back quickly before everyone refuses to pay. It is not value for money it is nothing but tish on the TV just recently and I would love to refuse to pay for this service if a slap on the wrist is all that you get.

Never paid my TV license because I don't watch live TV.
I know they have recently changed the law.
I was at my last property for thirteen years got the dreaded knock at the door opened up to see the TV license man told him to f##k off and he did , they never came round again.
Since my wife moved in she now pay's it as she is scared of them knocking on the door.
I think it's worth not paying on principle and if you get a fine then so be it the Australians refused to pay it and it got scrapped.
Down with the TV tax !

Mate there is a lad in west belfast called casey he runs a page called TV Licence Resistance basically if they come chapping give them a shout they come round

Have always paid but dont really know what I am paying for or how it gets spent. TBF Freeview HD is pretty decent these days compared to 5 years ago but dont know how much of that is down to TV Licence. Does the beeb take it all?

The licence fee is used almost entirely to fund BBC domestic radio, television and internet services. The money received from the fee represents approximately 75% of the cost of these services, with most of the remainder coming from the profits of BBC Worldwide, a commercial wing of the corporation which sells programmes and runs stations overseas (such as BBC World News), as well as other business allied to broadcasting such as publishing

In 2015/2016 the TV tax (and legally it is classed as a tax) amounted to £3.74 Billion. So you can see why the TV tax is not going away any time soon.

85% of the TV tax is paid directly to the BBC, the other 15% to the TV Licencing Authority (since 1991 that has been the BBC).

The UK is not the only country in Europe to pay a TV tax, and not the most expensive by far, in Norway you have to pay £190-£279 and if you want radio thats an extra £65 on top. In Swizerland it's £374. In italy you pay £100 and you can't get away with it as it's put on top of your electricity bill.

Personally I havent paid it at all, and never seen a problem. The only things we watch are downloaded and we watch plenty. If a program is any good it will always find its way onto the newsgroups, regardless of which station originally broadcast it.

not paid it since moved in 4 years ago weird bit they knocked on door first day in said do you see a tv ?
not been back since lol

I used to read the TV Licence Resistance forum, have a look at some of the videos uploaded to YT.

The Capita goons are on commission. There are videos of them messing on with TVs, booting computers and looking through people's stuff... Password your PC etc. a RIPA warrant is then required, as far as I remember :). I read one post about a goon pointing a camera with telephoto lens at someone's young daughter's bedroom window, trying to get "evidence" of illicit telly watching.

I bet they don't go down to the local traveller site asking to inspect caravans for tellys.

i didn't even know of "tv licence resistance" until @countryboy posted.
but I looked into more on YouTube. LOL!!!!!

funny how the tv taxman calls to people's doors and reads the caution out to them.
The same caution that only an officer of the law can?
(BBC is a private corporation)

THANK GOD WE DONT HAVE THAT HERE.
Surly if you want to watch a certain tv channel you should have the option to pay?
why do the police have call and see if your watching tv. LOL

if you want it pay for it.
If you don't want it, don't pay and watch something else.
but greed and bullying people is wrong!!

YouTube

edit:

look at 2 police officers body language when tv taxman read the rights out!!
(BRILLIANT)!!!

The Capita goons that come have the same powers as the milkman. They probably aren't even vetted for criminal records and people let them stroll through their house touching their stuff.
