as far as I know there is similar law in china.
The founder of the web [FONT=Source_sans]Berners-Lee said: "This Snoopers' Charter has no place in a modern democracy - it undermines our fundamental rights online.

Atleast china and U.K. have something in common.
They have probably been doing this for years until snowden spilt beans there just making it legal now.

Read about this a while back. I believe they pushed this through the morning of the Brexit voting results and it obvioulsy went through without any problems.
