Sadly not. Paypal is an unregulated cartel. Had various problems with them myself, and would use anything else if available.

If you mean alternative to paying using paypal then I would say not, you are at the mercy of the seller and which payment systems they will take.

Personally I always use a credit card if the site allows, then pay off the balance before incuring and interest, this is because most credit cards have insurance against online fraud where as a lot of debit cards do not.

Even if the site you are buying off only accepts paypal, like ebay, you can normally still use a card by checking out as a guest, no paypal account needed.

As for selling I use Amazon payments for customers, but I have to use paypal on ebay, as unlike other auctions sites, ebay force you into using their own company (paypal) to receive payments.

Paypal is prob the safest option there are others such as skrill, payoneer, google wallet and others, always pay as goods if you dont know who your dealing with as i got stung a couple of times on gumtree paid for items and never received them but got my money back with paypal.

not spam? just said ive never had a problem with paypal?

I did have a dispute with Payal about 5 years ago, feckers 'locked' my account with about £85 in it. Things may be different now, but back then it seemed all (my) emails were answered by a robot, as the replies did not relate in any way shape or form to the questions I asked.
Having said that, I've also had positive experiences as a buyer- when buying items that either didn't arrive or were significantly not as described, I've never been out-of-pocket. So it's swings & roundabouts. The lost £85 left a bitter taste but I've probably benefited more than that in the years since.
It is my understanding that Paypal is no longer owned by eBay. BUT they obviously still have a close connection; I recently changed my Paypal login password, but I did not have to alter anything on my eBay account, it still checks out as before.
