never been spain before looking on advice on where to go. want to go where there is things to do for whole family, and looking to go in august. looked at barcelona, most cheap hotels are in city and it says 20mins from beach. see costa brava is near there but transfers will add 150 to price of holiday
any advice

Yep, Benalmadena is also close to Malaga, Fuengirola, Torremollinos etc., so plenty to see & do. Mind it will be HOT in August!!

benal is good, nice beaches and you can eat expensive or reasonable, been going there 30+,years, take some beach sandels or your feet will burn.

I could be wrong, but I think there are more Irish bars per unit area in Benelmadena than there are in Dublin.

Stick to the Spanish costa mate you wont go far wrong there.
Travelling there for the last 7yrs, with 2 kids, they keep asking to go back..
When the kids are happy so are the parents......

go for one as near beach as poss, bit of a walk if your the other side of main road, Timor sol or sol Timor is OK . anywhere round that area has best beaches bars restaurants etc. I don't like torremolinos but that's a personal choice, to hilly and busy for me.
most place in between carhuilla and fringerola are fine.

went to Barcelona on hols for a week wont be disappointed loads to do and a lot to see and fantastic beaches

another vote for benalmadena. when i was a mod, me and another mod turned up on one of the admins door step, however, he had gotten wind of it, and fled the country lol

nice beaches, marina, loads of bars, parks and apartments are sometimes cheper than hotels there. i always used to stay in the apartamentos don gustavo, a gated building a few mins from everything, with its own pool, right on the bottom of cardiac hill (ave de telefonica)

id go back there in a heartbeat if i could

benidorm went there a few years ago, while we was there they was filming the sit com benidorm just below our balcony.

I wouldn't go in August to Andalucia. It is just to hot, I would stay in Costa Brava, also hot but not as intense as Andalucia. On the other hand if I have to go to the South of Spain I would then swap to Algarve. Is more or less the same and far cheaper for the same stuff.

srgberian I do remember being there one year they were filming Benidorm prog at the flamingo while we were in the levante next door we never saw anyone though & I weren't sozzeled the whole time lol

if you go costa del sol there is a costal train that runs from Malaga to firengarola I think just a couple of euros each last time I went so you visit other resorts markets or attractions etc. if you go to Benidorm there is loads to do bit of a concrete jungle in amongst the hotels but the makes a lot of competion for your business so often makes the price of things keen watch out for the flower sellers accosting you & don't go near the pea men shuffeling about a pea under nut shells for you to guess which one its under

Go for the local beer its much cheaper and tastes great.

DONT drink the local vodka.. ruskinoff (i think) you will end up having ruskinoff cough ( google this )

sent from 2 tin cans and some string

decided on salou just because of portavetura parks are close by so should keeps kids happy a couple of days and rest of the days on the beach

You will love it!

We have been back there about 4 times, Hotel Elpaso is the best of the lot in my opinion!

What we found is to go to the parks late, go about 7ish - if I remember correctly they open to 11pm???

As the spanish leave to go home and the rides are empty and the temperature is great.

In the day the park rides are packed, its 38/40C lol and you are sweating your balls off, and the kids are fighting about who was where in the queue that has not moved in 5 minutes :)

Lol good times.

Fantastic Holiday!

Mick
