I quite fancy one of these, but it's not being released until next year. However, they say if you pay now, it is half the price it will be upon release.
The website looks very convincing, but, let's face it, it doesn't take much these days to put together a convincing, decent-looking site.
It's not a bank-breaking amount of cash, but I would be gutted to send off the cash only to later find out it was all a big con.

Any opinions or advice?

I'd love 1 but like you say I wouldn't like to hand over £400 then not receive it

Would you not be covered by credit card purchase if it didn't come through.

A lot of kickstarter projects are similiar, where you get a good deal if you get in early.

Looks good though. If you snowboard, hope you stay on your feet, otherwise another thing to come crashing on top of you after you have already broke a leg.

Update: apparently is a crowdfunded project.
some more info here.

Don't use one anywhere near me. Out of control mini-drones are fecking dangerous.

Well, I've taken the plunge and signed up! Hope it's not a scam...

I don't want to scare you but backing a kickstarter does not mean you will receive the item.

To elaborate.. A company goes on Kickstarter with their pitch. They need £x for this, £x for that etc... They offer incentives to generate more money to make things better.

This is all good and generally works, however it has been known that due to manufacturing issues etc... some never get to release an item as they run out of money. By this point they have already had your cash and you will not see it again.

I have backed many kickstarters and they have always delivered, some late and some early. Don't let this put you off but just be aware that the worst could happen.

I hope u get it. I'd love to see some real footage

Hello all! Lily is actually not a kickstarter campaign. They are a funded company just offering a preorder (if you search kickstarter you won't find a Lily campaign). Here is an interview from the founder on CNN: The drone that flies itself - CNN Video

Actually it appears to be a crowdfunded project. It needs the money from those pre-orders as far as I can see.

So still could possibly go t*ts-up?

This is a good idea but surely needs more development. And BTW I dont believe the video quality... check some small drones videos and it is shaky and blur...

Well I wouldn't put this in the 'cheap' category, besides image stabilisation isn't difficult these days.
I ended up playing safe and got a DJI Phantom3 Advanced. Very steady video indeed, even when being blown about a bit in the wind.

The biggest problem I find with Kickstarter type offers is that by the time you get your product it's ether out of date or well over priced.

Last year my brother-in-law was well chuffed when he got his 3d printer after waiting 9 months after seeing it on Kickstarter. It was a basic 3d printer with 1 nozzle and no heated bed. Cost his the equivalent of £400.

2 months after he got his I bought a 3d printer from ebay (from the UK not a cheap chinese one) for around half the price with a lot bigger build area, heated bed and dual nozzles. but didn't get the bragging rights he had 9 months earlier.

Kickstarter offers and the like just give other companies time to manufacture stuff cheaper and bring it out quicker, but you are left paying your original pledge, which can end up being very expensive.

Well, did you get it?

Not yet, but I've been in touch and they think it should come this summer. Since I got in early I didn't pay much, so if it comes it should be worth it. It's up to $999 now!

Still seems legit as they are still on mainstreem news occasionally...

Yes, I agree, I have a DJI with a GoPro on a DJI gimble and it is great quality and very stable. Needs flying though so it wont follow me down the ski slopes. DJI is v. expensive too. I ordered early on this Lily camera and at the price I paid it should be a nice toy if it works...

Or gone 'down'??

One has to wonder what really went wrong, and if folks will really get their money back. Sad, but given the competition not a huge surprise. RIP Lily :(
