Google = Skynet?

Just a little item on BBC News got me thinking!

Looks good! Makes Google a lot more than a search engine but I suppose with all the advertising revenue sloshing around they can pretty much do what they like.

They're also into robotics in a big way having bought up numerous companies and they're throwing brains at it as well as cash.

Of course, it's got more than a few in a bit of a tizz.

What do you think, should we be worried?

Who knows, but technology moves rapidly. Google already controls the majority of what we read online, who knows what else they control.

But this might be a Sci-fi bridge to far lol.

But good discussion, robotics is the future, I remember seeing a program where they think within 50 years they will combine humans and robots. To some extent they already do this.

google don't control web content, they do control how we find it.

There have been a couple of stories recently regarding them. They have a AI department which last year claimed that their made it first decision by itself (i.e. not programmed for it), they have recently purchased one of the largest home automation companies as well as various robotics companies (which have BIG links to US defence industry) as well as some other bits and pieces,

They also announced that they will be highly integrated in various manufacturers in-car electronics. And don't forget their self driving car which may start testing in the UK in 2015 (depending on changes in the law to allow it).

They also are now in the top 10 for patents having come from nowhere in 2011, that does not include patents they now hold as part of their various purchases (17,000 with Motorola alone).

Natural stupidity will inevitably produce artificial intelligence, then each will think the other is insane.

Still, we could always control it with something impenetrable like the Data Protection Act, couldn't we!:LOL:
