looking for some advice.

I asked my boss on Tuesday if I could have Friday off,(a bit short notice but we weren't that busy). He never said anything. I go for my teabreak on Wednesday morning(today) and when I come back we have received an order which will keep as busy to the end of the week. the boss then walks past and says "I guess you'll not be getting Friday off then. I am the only worker there. the rest is family. mother, father, son. everytime I ask for a holiday there is always a problem yet when they want a holiday nothing stands in the way.

Is there any sort of holiday booking system?

You could just tell him that you arranged a holiday for something personal and you can't rearrange it because you thought it was agreed. You have tickets booked, anything, they don't need to know.

Tribunals crush employers on things like this most of the time anyway. No booking procedure? Not your problem.

the first question to your employer has to be what notice do they require? 48 hours is reasonable but get clarification in writing so you have this correct from the off.............tell them you feel discriminated against this will make them take notice

His comment seems to indicate that he had agreed to the holiday.

Legally the law say reasonable notice, but you should have some sort of system for booking holidays. I know for my dad who was a postie that they had to book holiday months in advance.

Other thing to consider is how much bad blood you potentially might cause, especially if its a small family business.

Many companies operate a percentage of employess can be off at a certain time to inc sickness training and hols.
Obviously work load will always come into this.
Should have got a hol form signed, and then they can still be cancelled but only with good reason.
At the end of the day, no form no hols but at least you have a job.

where i work for 1 day off we need to give 48hrs noticed

my advice is being a small business you work for is go see the boss let him know you defo need time off Friday
but offer to stay a little late the day before or even do a couple of hours on the Friday

Our place is 5 days notice for a day off and 4 weeks notice for a week plus off. But to be honest if work load allows that will be flexible

Throw a sick **** em... no loyalty any where these days not got a leg to stand on if they try and get rid of you :)

that's right, you won't have a leg to stand on.
