hey peeps, just wondering who's into cycling?
if so what type of bike you got?

i just bought a ride bike yesterday,
looking forward to riding it to be honest!

by the way it felt weird riding a bike after so many years,
think i just need to get used to it, especially with the sitting position of a road bike!

Used to do a bit of off-road years ago, but now I've just got an entry level Trek mountain bike with road tyres to get me to work and back.

Just make sure you've got the saddle height right. The quote below gives you a rough guide to the best riding position for your saddle height. Bear in mind that when you stop, your feet will not reach the ground sitting on the saddle. You'll need to get used to moving the bike to one side to dismount.

If you already know this, apologies!!

There are a number of ways to get the right saddle height. A good way of doing it is to sit on the bike with both feet on the pedals – get a friend to help, use a trainer or lean against a wall. Place your pedals in the 6 o’clock and 12 o’clock position. Your bottom leg should be fully extended when the heel is placed on the lower pedal. If it’s bent you need to raise the saddle. If you have to rock your hips to reach or simply can’t reach, then lower the saddle. You can also tell if the saddle is too high if you find you are sitting on the narrow front part of the saddle – although this could also be related to saddle tilt.

The idea is that when you correctly position your foot on the pedal your knee is just slightly bent at the bottom of the rotation. Also make sure you don’t raise the seat post beyond the manufacturer’s recommended height as it could become unstable and even break off when riding.

Offroad, yes. Put slicks on me crosser to do road work :)

you commute to and from work all the time?

Aye me, profile pic :)

thanks a lot for this bud,
when i took it for a test ride,
it felt so weird with the handle bars being drop down and the seat felt so high too lol

i know i need to get into the right sitting position,
but i only bought it yesterday late evening,
gave it a good clean today,
was wondering whats the best way to clean the sprocket and chain??

any tips? like home made cleaning solutions etc...

p.s didnt expect such fast replies lol!

No M8, I don't commute on me bike - cost me an arm and a leg ffs ;)

As for cleaning, Muckoff and a toothbrush, careful hosing down followed by a dry setup lube - depends on what you do...

...don't do much road work so others may advise better?

lol, how many miles is your commute to and from work?

Yeah I cycle.. but roads.. no no no no no.. far too dangerous !
I prefer to huff an puff my way to the top of a large steep rugged mountain side then point the bike downhill and hang on for grim death, screaming like a banshee :D
Luckily living in Derbyshire there's an abundance of places I can do it too :)

hey peeps, im looking at buying a computer for my bike,
was wondering which one would be better a wired or wireless one?

i got a trek 1.5 just after summer haha, wrong time of year i know, ive been on it twice but hope to get out soon, its my first road bike

I dont, I use take my quad out and ride in mountains but sold it.

It's a Specialized S-Works Full Suspension Frame with the following:-
Fox Float R Shock
Rock Shox Revelation Dual Air Fork
SRAM S9 front and rear derailleur.
Race Face crankset with external BB
Magura Louise Hydraulic Disc brakes 203mm at the front and 180mm on the rear.
DT Swiss 5.1 Rims with Hope Pro II hubs.

And one fat rider!

Stop it.. they are old train lines as well you know it and all but flat :D :D
I mean around Edale like Jacob's ladder and Kinder, Ladybower, Owler Bar and Fox House etc

Hehe - just testing! I used to do trail-quest events around Edale, Ladybower etc. As for High Peak, it was an evening challenge, out at 6pm and complete the round trip (bike hire centre) but back in time to order scoff at the pub. Mate being the chef he used to get peeved if orders got too close to 9pm :)

Some nice kit you guys have - mine is a wee bit older - Kona Kilauea (retro hard-tail), bought new and upgraded with Marzocchi front shocks and hand-built wheels. Survived the Alps and the Pyrenees a few times but hard-tails are well-twitchy in the mountains!

:)

hey you peeps have got nice bikes, must have cost a fair bit lol! :)

i got myself a carrera valour, its a grey colour road bike,
picked it up for £120,

i think its a bargain,
especially because i've noticed since tour de france and
the olympics bike prices seem to have increased lol!

it seems in good condition,
got some scuffs and scratches which are to be expected,
when it comes to the mechanics i got no idea to be honest lol, but seems fine to me,
i just thought it would be the perfect bike for me to get back into cycling.

what do you peeps reckon? good buy? bad buy?

it looks like this one in the picture below,
but its obviously not in as mint condition as the one in the picture lol
