Hey all

Just been hearing on the news that the Scottish government wants to introduce a licence for airguns?

Is there any fellow Scottish airgunners on here foresee this as a pain in the arse?

At a time where the police are facing cuts how are they going to afford to keep airgunners in check?

I understand there is total arseholes out there who own airguns who are spoiling it for use but do we really have to be classed the same as folk who own true firearms?

Cheers

its a nonsense, same as

1: drinking in public places ban.
2: smoking ban.
3: minimum pricing on alcohol.

why the4 government has to control every little detail of our life, i don't know...

great to live in a free country lol

If they can kill in the wrong hands then yes i agree with the controls.

Just watching CNN on the masacre in America . yet another ****1n nutter with a gun killing 20 kids and 6 adults in a school. Its like Dunblane all over again :(

Why should there be a ban on airguns? I use mine for pest control

I know this doesn't affect everyone one but since they banned fox hunting there has been a huge increase in foxes roaming the streets in my area causing damage...tearing bins apart which then increases the amount of mice and rats etc

If something is going to be banned they need to think of the concesquences before rushing such a thing through, to me a ban on airguns, .177 or .22 makes absolutely no sense

Which proves the point that they were only hunted for pure bloodlust and not for all the made up reasons the supporters were claiming or they'd still be trapping and destroying foxes to keep the population down but that's another story

But back on topic I do agree with you, what's the point in banning air guns seems pretty stupid, I still have my air pistol and it'll remain that way.

fair point.
but there is a big step between a .177/.22 air rifles, and an M4 carbine.
yes I do know the M4 has the same sized bullet as a .22 air rifle (.223).
the M4 fires an 11.8 gram bullet @ 2.970 fps (standard NATO round, with a 14.5 inch barrel)
an air rifle fires an 7 gram pellet @ 800 fps

the air rifle pellet can be stopped by a rolled up copy if the Times @ 10 foot.
the M4 bullet will split light armour @ 40 yards.
hands up anyone who can remember a massacrer (or killing come to that) whose perpetrator used an air rifle?

i hold a firearms and shotgun licence and yes i do think air guns need to come under some type of licence just to keep some kind of control over who has them and where there are going ,if you know you name is link to a gun trust me you will be a lot more careful who you pass this gun on to

In Northern Ireland, air rifles are classed as a firearm and you have to hold a FAC to own one, and even then it's only up to 12ft/lbs for most people.
You used to have to have your FAC recorded when you bought he single tin of pellets that you were allowed to own at any one time.
I lost my FAC when the farmer that owned the land that I had permission to shoot on sold up to developers. So I had to get rid of my 12 bore that I shot pigeons and ducks with, as well as my trusty.22 Webley Vulcan that was only ever used for plinking in my garden.

The plain fact is in Scotland there is no real practical reason for any normal domestic dwelling householder to own any type of gun, it's just hillbilly stuff Scottish style. I think all gun related activities should take place in proper controlled environments clubs etc, where the guns should also be stored with the appropriate licence.

Thanks Paul i was just going to post the same link. You saved me the bother

but fox hunting was a way of pest control....i dont care what anyone says they are vermin..if they are causeing damage then they should be dealt with but not just targeted for the sake of it

other than pest control i have no use for my air rifle and pistol, tbh honest outside of gun clubs and pest control what use are these guns? although i still dont see the need for a licence or if the authorities have the resource to police such a scheme

No denying that they are vermin and a pest but if you need to get rid, go out and track and shoot it with your rifle there is simply no need to chase it around for hours terrifying it, before allowing a pack of dogs to tear it apart zombie apocalypse style, nothing deserves to die in such a manner.

im not saying i agree in how they done it i was merely making a comment on how it was a form of pest control

can someone post a airgun v knife crime list ?, its parents, shop owners and fecking idiots that use them that are to blame, i think there are a few on here into archery whats the point in a ancient weapon being kept at home for pleasure use, or my fishing catapult that can fire a ball bearing if chosen to.
ffs are they gonna ban/license anything that could be used to harm someone.
I know BAN any console game that uses a weapon just in case some inbred moron thinks its ok to go out and hurt someone.
