We are very lucky: we have a local baker who brings us bread once a week.

Every year at this time he bakes hot cross buns and we usually buy two dozen - we eat some over Easter and freeze the rest to have later.

They are soooo good, much better than the ones you can buy in the shops. They are dark and filled with fruit and spices.

I look forward to this time every year - one of the small joys!

Ooh that brings back memories. Most of the supermarket ones are bland, light brown coloured rubbish with a faint taste of cinnamon if you're lucky.

I only eat them at this time of year. It's good to keep some things special.

Going back a few years (careful!), I only remember them being baked the week before Easter.

Nowadays, like Easter Eggs, they seem to appear on the shelves on Boxing Day. :grayno:

Hot cross buns, Easter eggs, they are on the shelves in Leicester, I was under the impression they were banned in some parts of the UK
