Its been many years since I rode a bike, maybe over 8 years or so!
Th weather seems to be improving, touch wood, and I have decided its time to get a mountain bike to bicycle on some cycle routes and get fit again.

I will only be using the bike once or twice a week on both roads and hilly areas but want to know what to go for without spending too much on something that will be stored more in the shed then be used on the road.

What should I be looking for when going for a mountain bike, how many gears, type of breaks, frame etc?

Thanks

When you say hilly area's do you actually mean off roading or going around some parks? As that will be the defining point on how much you need to spend.

Have you got a budget in mind?

I bought a Raliegh tundra from Halfords about two years ago for 120 quid half price sale ,done loads of miles on it well put together alloy frame nice and light and strong.great for road/off road
Keep your eyes open around now cos halfords do it every year around easter/spring time.

The reason I am asking is that I maybe selling my Specialised Hardrock Pro.

It would be only used in parks and some small forest cycle paths with some hills. I probably wouldn't spend more than £120 on it as I would be hardly using it on a regular basis but when I do use it, I would be trying to get the most out from it.

If you have a Decathlon near you, I believe they have some good bikes. :)

Sent from my iPhone using fingers and thumbs!

This is my cup of tea always have bought Scott bikes in the past but lower range models around £350 mark.

But they are quick as out, I would not skimp on a bike at are age as grown men like us have to look after are bones joints lol :proud:

Tesco have them in very cheap.
Seen one yesterday, standard mountain bike £70.
Also sports soccer are doing them from £50 upwards. If its just fitness then definitely worth a go.

Have you access to the 'cycle to work scheme' pal, you can get bikes and bits tax free over 18 months ?

Really nice bike that MH to much money for me at the moment but Im sure someone will take it off you.

Are them hardrock bikes for off road trial and road ?

Yes, its the same frame as the Rockhopper. I used it mainly offroad but put the hardpack tyres on it for keeping fit over the winter as my full suss it a bit overkill for the roads.

if your after a new cheap bike whatever you do dont get full suspension cause it will be totaly useless,if there are two bikes both for £120 ones got disc brakes and one hasnt dont get the discs cause they will more than likely be crap, look for a good make without all the extras you could always improve it later if you decide to stick with it.
