Is this a good alternative to the Ipad?

Personally i think the IPAD is overpriced and underpowered and too restricted.
That dell looks brilliant. Also some of the HP machines are pretty smart too.

iv been thinking about getting a samsung galaxy tab as the android OS is the best most open source OS there is, having owned an ipad it was fantastic but like apple do with all there devices it was too closed down, android on the other hand you can do what you like! i like the look of that dell but as a laptop its far too small for my liking, and as a tablet it seems a little bulky, would be better if you could take the screen off and just use that as the tablet, instead of having to keep the keyboard attached while in tablet mode!

Nice idea mate, maybe we will see something similar soon.
A tablet/ laptop hybrid which is detachable.

I dont own an Iphone, so could not understand the apple hype or fuss.

Until i bought the wife an Ipod for xmas, its been in constant use since xmas day, by the mrs and the kids.

So i had thought about an Ipad!

If they dropped the price by half i would have one tomorrow, but an internet device with lack of flash support (WTF) for £600.

Then you read past all the Fanboy reviews and start to realise that the Ipad has limited usability past the inital, app downloading frenzy.

I already have a Top spec desktop and a Dual core lappy, but the Dell Duo looks like a device that i would pay good money for.

Ideal for taking on Holiday for the wifi usage and net surfing, checking email and being more usable than a Smartphone for the screen and keyboard at least.

But lack of media card reader is a serious omission on Dells part i feel.
Yes you could easily plug a usb card reader cheaply enough.

So thanks to the OP and i will give the Dou some thought as an Ipad alternative with more functionality.

personally looks great and after jailbreaking and having a play with about 20 ipads all they are is a bigger ipod/iphone and quite awkard to handle thats why i dont have 1 , howerever i will be getting a mac as well as a pc

Certainly looks different can't say i like dell myself but maybe this could be the start of the future dual pc with detachable tablet as said earlier.

I could imagine it would fall apart.

Dell make the least robust machines I have used.

All of there laptops have or will have some kind of hardware malfunction after the warrenty lol

I used to only buy dell but if its not a base station I wont touch dell anymore.

There is a cheaper alternative if all you want is a touchscreen/netbook combo thingy.

Theres a fairly decent touchscreen android advent tab around, reviewed here, (although you can get cheaper chinese tabs)that does all you need from a tablet.

Then if you want to type but still keep it looking smart [ame="http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/10-2-Android-Tablet-PC-Case-pad-E-pad-Keyboard-Case-/330520082100?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item4cf48836b4"]this[/ame] is a smart, cheap and simple solution. although there are a lot nicer ones around for more money, some even bluetooth, this is a good way of mixing the two.

Obviously if you going to be running any high end programmes then you have to with the dell as it is a "proper" computer.

BTW The advent is really well supported on Modaco and has loads of mods for it, including access to Market.

I have now got my Dell Duo and it is great.
Am gonna put my Samsung NC10 in the bargain section for a hundred quid, for a few days before I put it on Ebay
