If you look south west towards East Kilbride, between EK and south Glasgow there is a set of high powered lights, they look like floodlights for perhaps a driving range. I know there are a few golf clubs in the area, does anyone know what the lights are?

You can't miss them, if you can see the south west horizon then they are the brightest lights there.

lol, they are always there, it's not strange unexplained lights.

It looks like it's either a floodlit golf course or maybe a football pitch, but it's about 10 miles away from me and all I can see is these very bright horizontal lights.

u sure mrs k
just not put kitchen light on to make a cuppa?

Don't suppose its anything to do with the M74 extension, like floodlights so they can work at night?

maybe the Hampden Park floodlights - i used to be able to see them when i lived in Birkenshaw near Uddingston.

If you know the rough location, why not have a look on google maps, street view would give you an idea once you have figured out the exact location.

So why you asking what they are? :proud:

Because I don't know what they are.

They appear to be in the area between East Kilbride and South Glasgow. They haven't always been there so I'm guessing it's something that was built recently - possibly during the summer as that's when I first spotted them.

It's not the M74 roadworks as it's in the wrong area and it's not the Hampden floodlights either.

In the area I'm guessing it is, there are a lot of private golf clubs. My first guess is that it is a floodlit driving range, possibly even a 5-a-side football complex. I've Google Mapped the area and cannot find a driving range, but maybe the maps are out of date?

Member TCF from another forum said he could see them last night and he told me they were switched off at approx 12 midnight, so it does sound like some sort of sporting venue.

I said to the wife we had to many Christmas lights, but naw she has to be right just a couple of more she said.

I said ffs you'll be able to see them from Coatbrig at this rate.

they never listen.

on a timer that's why they go off at midnight.

Sure there is a driving range in Blantyre m8

Much further away that Blantyre mate.

If I were to hazzard a guess I'd say it was somewhere along the Glasgow Road A749, that road has great views of all of Lanarkshire.

there a tv mask that lights up in the black hills in salsburgh that i can see but that might be the other direction witchy

Totally different direction plus those are vertical red lights.

The ones I'm talking about are horizontal and extremely bright white/yellowish over in the area to the west of East Kilbride.

If I had a set of binoculars I'd soon work out what it was. :)

there is a floodlit driving range in that area, not sure if it would be visable in coatbridge though....

Deaconsbank Driving Range | Golf | Glasgow | Welcome to Scotland

I reckon that would be too far west mate.

I'm gonna have to get my GPS out. :)

I suppose you could mate.

If you look towards East Kilbride follow the A725 and just where it enters EK next to the 3 big tower blocks (I know one of then is called Shaftsbury Court, not sure what the other two are called). Anyway imagine you've come to the 'Whirlies' roundabout and you want to turn right (west) towards Glasgow, keep going west on the A749, I'm sure the lights on on this road somewhere, or atleast in this area.

right, no where you are, will have a look :)

i work in that area at night time, will take a look during the week if its not solved by then....

is it maybe hampden your looking at?

tell you summit else, they have just built a big sports complex close to it. (next to the big asda)
