Can someone help me i've bought a sunbed and the guy says it needs to be wired directly to a 13amp socket he said its 13amp single phase. I tried wiring direct to a socket and it just trips out straight away, the sunbed is an ex salon bed with36 x 160w tubes and has a token meter which says inside 230v 1kva whatever that means. Anyone help me on the correct wiring up for this bed? cheers

well i dont know much about electrical stuff but i tried wiring it to a 16a mcb annd then 32a ring but after approx 1minute on the 16a it tripped out and on the ring circuit it tripped out immediately, does this help?

I am no expert pal but a 32a should be plenty, all I can suggest until someone else corrects me is that you need one with a higher 'tripping current'.

When you swich on the sunbed it is this instant hit that blows the trip, not the constant current that powers the device.

If it is a type B 32a then I would try a type C 32a

Like I say, hang on until I am corrected but I think thats your problem pal.

:)

the ring circuit is 32amp which blows straight away i dont suppose it need a blue commando fitting or needs connecting to a 3 phase circuit? just a thought cheers

i just had a quick look round it looking like you are going to have to put a new supply in same as you would for a shower or cooker as this thing is pulling far to much power to be using the ring main

from what i have find you need 50amp Single Phase Supply

as i have said this is just what i read on the internet as i do not know a lot about sunbeds

has it got any info on it about what sort of power it using ? ie amp , volts, etc

Hi M8,

At least 6mm but i'd use 10mm T&E,cable direct to the board on a 40amp breaker on its own....

I thought household electricity was single phase ?

thanks for your input guys the only thing on power i can find is in the token box which says 230v 1kva

just one thing why does it blow the 32a ring straight away while it takes 1 minute or just over to blow 16a circuit?

if its right by saying 36x 160 w tubes, that works out at just over 25 amp, then you can add start up witch will be half again. so 13 amp is well off, i would run it off a 10mm feed with a 40amp on the end, if it still trips it has a fault

it is ,but he did ask if he needs to run it of a 3 phase circuit ,so i reply and told him it needs a single phase at 50amps

how many other thing have you got ruining on the 32amp ring main ,

there was nothing else running at the time as i was the only person in the unit.

so overrides last post with a quote saying i will need 10mm t&e and a 40amp breaker but will i need a switch between sunbed and breaker like what you would use for an electric cooker so i could cut the power if need be ??? cheers.

fook me you wouldnt catch me lying under something that drew that much power lol

yes i would have some type of switch that can be easy turn of with in easy reach of the sunbed just in case you need to kill the power
