Hi Guys,

A small area of my roughcast has broken away (from a previously repaired area), probably because of the recent frost. I would appreciate some advice on the following questions below.
I’m not looking for a quote yet just preparing myself for expectations in advance:

a) approx cost per metre2 for repair.
b) approx cost to recover full wall (gable end) per metre2
c) as b) but taking back to brick first.
d) would you advise repair or full recover
e) would anyone recommend getting a repair then a spray on flexible sealant.

By roughcast do you mean it has stones/pebbles in it, or is it just like Tyrolean render?

How much has broken away?

Have you painted the existing rendering?

If so, I would DIY!

Get a bag or two of tryolean render, read the bag, clean the area removing loose render, apply, leave to dry, then paint.

Jobs a good un.

As far as quotes are concerned I can't help you.

Thanks mozr...it's not tyrolean, it has little stones in it.

Should have said: not painted and about a square foot area broke away...it's a bit unsightly as some other areas have been repaired.

I had the same problem about a year ago, about 18"sq piece of roughcast came away at the side of the house, got a plasterer/roughcaster to do it, he charged £30 it's not a big time consuming job.

1m/sq of pebble dashing costs appx £100 down in Essex.

What munkey hasn't told you is that his pebbles are in fact sapphires.

If you could get it done for £50< including materials, I would let a tradesmen do it.

Well I wouldn't but some would. :)

Stew1954,
go to Rowebb (Rowebb landscaping and rendering supplies).
If you take a sample of the roughcast into them they'll match the colour and give you everything you need, including the name of a good local guy.
If you go into the Glasgow depot, wee Martin is a Celtic man so you can enjoy winding him up a bit.

Hi

i had a problem with roughcasting at the side of the house and got it repaired and have had no problems since. Due to the recent weather problems in the Paisley area i now have problems with rough casting on my chimneys. as i will not need them i am looking at getting them removed and smaller funnels (if that is the term) and replacing the). I have had no problem with the previosus rough casting but as that was to the side of the house there was no alternative as i do not use the chimneys i am going to get them replaced to avoid future problems, I can recommend someone in the paisley/glasgow area. I would recommend getting it replaced as soon as, we never did with the chimney and now we have water coming in down the walls.

Hi lorna180, I have a similar problem with pieces of roughcast around the flat being lose and sounding hollow, could you recommend some to repair the roughcast.
