update photo on driving licence

just got a letter today saying i have to update photo
seemingly only last ten years , robbing gits as according to the leflet it cost 20 notes.

my m8 still hasnt updated his to the photo one ,but i though that was illegal now.?????

Yeah modern photo license only last 10 years. The Bird had to get hers changed too, and you have a certain grace period to get it done, if you dont, you cant drive legally.

I've still got the old paper licence and have had no notification that I need to change it so f*ckem.

I to still have the paper one, its like an origami puzzle I didnt update mine because they were not leaving 7.5t and a couple of others on the new ones.

you have to becareful when sending them away coz i have heard of peoples not comin back with the right entitlements on them.

Least your getting notified now.... Think last year or the year before there was a lot of complaints as people didn't realize they were only valid for 10 years and getting caught out by not renewing them resulting in a fine £££

Is a joke though to pay £20 every 10 years to update the photo driving licence when the old paper ones lasts 50 odd years

Yeah i'v still got the old paper one, had it 15 yrs and still no notice to update it as yet and am unlikely to either as i am of the opinion that i have already paid for it and not goin to pay for it again !!!

i was horrified to read about 9 months after we had moved house it is an offence not inform dvla if you have moved and quite a considerable fine too.

needless to say we all updated our licences and it was free at the time about 6 years ago, i suppose they charge now.

the picture licence has been useful over the years as a proof of identity as i normally carry the card but never carry passport unless i am going somewhere via the airport.

The Fee of £20 to update photo really is a joke.

I first passed my test in march 1999 and got the photo license as it had just came out then.

1 year later I lost my license under new driver rules and never bothered about it as I flogged the car and never bothered applying and takin my test again.

However December 2008 I applied for my provisional (thinking of taking test again) which I had to pay the going rate. then in feb 2009 I got the same reminder wanting £17 to update photo 2 months after I had been intouch with them to ask how to obtain provisional. so I paid 2 lots of money to the blood sucking DVLA in 2 months.

They like every other big organisation linked to the government they take the piss m8

yep same here m8 they are not getting my money unless its law i have to update my licence.

I think it is guys. I aint adamanat, but i think everyone has to have these photo licenses, not sure though. I would check the dvla site or something.

And £20 for a photo makes me laugh, as you dont even supply a new picture either, they use the original one you sent. So your just paying an admin cost really.

same here still on paper and i got pulled last year by the police and they said fook all
so it stays that way
