been looking at getting a mountain bike but cant decide which one, mainly for work but hopefully getting out & about off road during summer, but not much. budget is £300-350 looked around and like the look of the 3 below, especially the GT but not sure it would be suitable for what i need it for. i know a few on here have bikes and wondered what they thought or had any other options/views

Evans Cycles | Scott Aspect 50 2009 Mountain Bike | Online Bike Shop
Evans Cycles | GT Tempest 3.0 2009 Jump Bike | Online Bike Shop
Evans Cycles | Scott Voltage YZ 1 2009 Mountain Bike | Online Bike Shop

I'd opt for the lightest of the three bikes as you'll be pushing those road miles where a few ounces can make a difference. The Scott 50 looks pretty nice on paper.

The GT is nice but you'll need to change those tyres if you plan on any road riding.

If you do end up getting a bike from halfords, just get it boxed and build it yourself, you may find 1 skilled person per store but they dont build the bikes very often so best to do it yourself.

My work does this scheme, its great, ive had bikes the last 2 years and 2 weeks ago i picked up a Boardman Mountain Bike Comp Large 09 :)
nice one i didnt know halfords did any decent bikes till you posted lol

:) just build it yourself, takes 30 mins at most. The bike is great, its so light :)
The hardest part is if you want to put slime in your inner tybes as they have presta valves, so you have to remove the tubes to get the slime in.

I,d go for the aspect 50 its a cracking bit of kit,I ve got the 2008 aspect 40 which is one of the best mountain bikes ive ridden.
