There is a new Monkey Island game on the horizon and this got me thinking. Years ago I was a member on a Glasgow BBS, just like Digital Worldz today, it was a forum for sharing ideas, tips and gossip.

I had just bought Monkey Island III and one of my mates on the BBS had asked if he could borrow it to make a backup. He asked if he could get a loan of it before the upcoming Saturday, so I dropped it off to him on the Friday.

Saturday came and went and the fella didn't log onto the BBS, this was very unusual for him as he would normally log on 3 or 4 times a day.

I left it a week and dialled his home number to see if everything was ok but I only got the 'unobtainable tone' meaning the line was dead.

I made a post on the BBS to see if anyone knew what had happened and someone replied and told me that the fooker with my game had EMIGRATED TO AMERICA the day after I had given him my game!

He stood there chatting to me knowing full well that he was leaving the country and that my £40 PC game was going with him.

lol

Dirty thieving bastard!

Can i borrow your wallet and credit card please

unfortunately ... there are a lot of people like that out there ... maybe not going to the extreme of moving abroad though but lend them something and never see or hear from them again

I had a so called mate like that too, I asked him to pick up £200 from his neighbour that I left there, Bearing in mind I have known this guy for 25 years, so he picked it up then went out snorted half up his nose and lost the rest at poker? and then vanished for over a year till i got it back.

Some people just dont care what they do to others.

Very true and what he did was shocking.
Did you get hold of him and if so how many teeth did he have missing afterward?

Quite right too.
I had a similar experience with a guy i knew for 10yrs when he had problems with his rent!
Done what i thought was the decent thing and gave him £100.
Didn't know he was a gambler as well as a liar and needless to say i kissed my money goodbye.
I was gonna give him a slap but he has kids so i just left it and never spoke to him again.
Its amazing that you think you know some people and then they do something totally out of character.

I played football with a bloke who I considered a mate. He'd been on the dole for a few months & got the chance of a job, at his trade, in Belgium but didn't have the cash to get him there or tide him over till payday. We'd had a few beers after our game on the Saturday & he could fly out on the Monday morning if he got the cash together. I was earning decent money at the time & loaned him £300 (250 from the atm & 50 quid cash).

Guess what................................

Yip, 2 weeks later on his 1st trip home he repaid the cash & took me for a few pints. There are some decent folk in the world!!

Sorry to hear about your 40 quid witchy, nice stroke by your 'mate' though :roflmao: (sorry mate)
HH.

Yeh i have loaned mates, money on many occasions and they have paid it back.
The majority of people are honest and trustworthy.
The point of Witchy's post is, you do get the odd idiot.
:err:
i think.

they don't more abroad now. they just become Ebay sellers!

With things like this, what I normally do is just thank the heavens that I am not like that. He obviously picked this 'skill' up from those those around him or some situation in his life brought this negative side out of him.

So just let him get on with it, he will have to go through life like that and I'm sure you're glad you don't - so you haven't got the game but at least you can't lie to someones face and then ripp them off with a smile on your face, and that's what's important.
