In limbo!
What grade oil should i use in a 1998 ford escort finnesse 1.6 16v it's a zetec engine. Ive read 5w 30 should be ok?

oil of olay?

in halfords they have a guide that lists them all m8

I would have thought that's a bit thin mate for an engine of that age.
I would go for something more like 15w 40..
What's the mileage?

Zetecs need very thin oil, think it is 5w 30,but it is practically like water. If it's too thick it auses oil pressure problems.

I wanted to be sure as i knew zetecs need the correct grade otherwise you get problems.

Thats true but if i remember right they changed the tappets in 1998 due to them sticking with the thin oil.
They were replaced by conventional tappets with shims to stop this so you should be able to run it on thicker oil.
Better to get it checked out though mate at your local stockist.

the only oil you should use is 5w 30 and nothing else, if you use different oil then your tappids will start to make noise, if however you nhave put a different grade of oil in flush the system out and pour new oil in and change the oil filter to...
