Please be aware that there are counterfeit new 20 pound notes in circulation. I got one given to me and they are very good. The way to spot them is,
1, If you look closely at the holagram it doesnt change from the pound sign to the number 20 when you tilt it on the 2nd & 4th holagram image.

2, On a real note the writing that says BANK OF ENGLAND is raised if you feel it with your finger and on a fake one it feels smooth.
3, If you put a fake note up to the light the Queens head watermark that is on the left side doesnt resemble the queens head at all.

4, The silver foil line is fake because if you rip where its supposed to be it will rip straight through where on a real one it doesnt rip through the foil line.
5, Finally the paper feels different to a real note and is slightly yellower.

It is easy to be given one if you dont know what to look for so hopefully this guide will put you on your guard because with them being new design notes its easy to be conned as most people will assume that they are too new to be counterfeited.

will have to keep my eyes open :)

if someone offered me a load though i gotta admit, if they looked really good, it would be well tempting!!

Hi
1 thing you missed i would expect
Is that the ink is always wet on a real 1
So rub the purple ER square on plain paper
Fakes will either smudge or not leave a mark

Where can i get me some of them?? sound good :) great carboot spending money :)

Cheers for heads up :)

these notes have been around for a good 8 months at least... i work with them every day (i work in a bank) they are good, but the have a waxy feel to them, just the feel of the note tells u its fake.

that's fecking shocking so it is, who would do a thing like that.

been down south a while now m8 ,easy to spot when u know what to look 4 ,best regards danny

I was in Leeds a few weeks back some guy offered me some of these he said i'll give you one for free and you can buy 1 £20 note for £9 i was like get lost not worth the risk in my opinion!

The worst is the pound coin i get loads

The thing with the £1 coin is if you point out to shop keepers they deny its a fake.. you show them the colour and how the queen isnt aligned etc they still deny it.. Ive even give one to a shop and told them its fake (it was) he checked it and said ill pass it on..

On that basis i think theyre spot on to shift on..

"looks around to buy £1 coins"

lmao. Fake notes are always available, if you know where to look. In my younger days, and not something I am proud of, but I spent like £2000 of fakes in a week. Some people are just oblivious, and if your careful and selective then you can easily get rid of loads of these dodgy notes.

Only way I have ever found that is fool proof the raised part of the note, this is the only bit that cannot be counterfeited, so feel if the top of note is raised, if not, then usually a fake.

We used to pay £20 for £200 of 20s or £10 for £100 of 10s.

last time we had a batch round here, it was a girl on the Tesco check out that offered me them!

had loads of these last year when managing a shop

quite easy to tell as the texture of the paper is different and smoother

holograms are hard to pick up but the indentation of the letters on the to of the note is a clear enough signal

if anyone gets hold off one can they upload the pic front/back thanks

Officers have distributed leaflets to shops and businesses in Shipley town centre urging people to take extra care when handling money.

Fifteen counterfeit £20 notes have been recovered from a number of businesses which have fallen victim to the fake cash over the past few days, including two pubs, two bookmakers and a convenience store.

Sarah Leahy, chairman of Shipley Business Watch, said: “It’s worrying because Shipley has got a lot of small businesses.

“I work for Argos which is a major company, but for a lot of the little retailers in Shipley, they survive hand to mouth, so £20 or more is a big sum to miss.

“I’m pleased it has come to light – it helps because we have such a good business link with the radio users so we can actually pass information on so everyone is aware.

“Generally the notes look very good. I think it is across the district, but I think it has been highlighted more in Shipley.

“We work very closely together with Pubwatch and Business Watch and I have received information that it is across the district.”

Inspector John Tatham, of Shipley Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “To check a note is genuine people can look for the silver line running through the paper or look for a clear watermark when it is held up to the light.

“If in doubt, don’t accept it.

“I would urge businesses to take particular care when accepting £20 notes.”
