Hi, i got finished from work on 24th april, now i was told by one of the lads at work that if u get finished within 2 weeks of a bank holiday arriving, u get paid for it, is there any truth in this? iv searched around on google with no luck. any help most appreciated
Thankyou

I cant see any company paying you for anything after the date you leave, unless you have been payed off and you are being payed in lue off your notice.

get in touch with acas they will inform you of your rights mate:Chainsaw:

Nobody has the "right" to a bank holiday, any longer. the days are rolled up into your yearly holiday allowance. so depending on the "company" year (as opposed to the financial year) you will be entitled to the days you have accrued from the start of the year, till our termination date.

I got finished on the 20th :( so same situation.

I will be contacting Acas as I believe that my employer has done the procedure wrong etc.

How you doing finding work I know I have been looking and asking all my contacts etc and there is absolutely nothing about in the sector I work in..

Darren

if the "Company" year starts at the beginning of April, you are owed about a day, for this year.

you don't say how you were "finished". this is the first thing to know in order to offer advice. unless you were made "redundant", what you are entitled to, is dependent on why you were sacked. if you were made redundant, age dependent, you get 1-1.5 days for each full year you have worked. pulse 3 months notice and any accrued holidays.

There are loads of rules and regs are termination, by finished I presume you mean were made redundant in which case how long have you worked there? Where you under a contract of employment or through an agency? Are there specific terms re redundancy in your TOC?

You are only entitled to redundancy payments if you have worked tere for 2 continous years of employment or unfair dismisal if more than 12 months of continous employement, beyond that there is limitee scope under wrongful dismissal but they are always hard to proved.

Depending on which category you fall into will dependant on any entitlement you were due?

As mentioned before, the only way I can see you being entited to pay for days not yet arrived or for work not completed is if you were given a payment in lieu of your notice, were dismissed via gardening leave or your days are accrued into your holiday pay, but even the latter if you were dismissed before a year end you are only entitled to the accrual thus far not any days not yet accrued.

ms2005 I got made redundant well I get the official nod tomorrow been at home for the last 2 weeks with pay etc then I will get payment in liu of notice plus I hope any thing else they owe me,no redundancy as I have only been employed with them for 16months.

My situation is a little different as it was all done on points system regarding 6 of the same positions as we merged 3 branches into 1. My points were given(by branch manager) as one of the highest of the branch because of my skills etc and then they have been altered by the regional director to the lowest ( guess he didnt like me ).

Any way not my thread so ACAS will advise me more...

yes I was laid off, i was working as a contactor building a new plastics plant, so as with contracting it was always inevitable that i was gonna get laid off, its the nature of the job, work a few months on one plant then onto the next, i got all the holidays i was owed including severence pay, so i was happy with what i recieved, i didnt think i would be entitled to it its just a lad at work mentioned it and i wanted to be sure. As to zad, no m8 theres nowt about at all, the company i was working for(amec), have jobs all over the country and they are normally pretty good at finding work for past employees so hopefully they will find me something. Iv been on the dole for a fortnight now and im already sick as a custard, its not even totally about the money, its about having something to get up for in the morning and having the self respect that a job brings. Oh well never mind something will turn up, thanx for the replies fellas

A bank holiday is a right to a day off with pay, given to us under law and may not be included in your annual leave.
