HOW DO THEY DO IT :santa::santa:

about twice a year (depending on riding style and distance). so it aint that bad. The problem is, some systems are DOT and some are Mineral. Luckily mine is mineral, as DOT is Hygroscopic

Depends on the make, mine are Magura Louise and they take Royal Blood. If they are Hydraulic you will need a bleed kit also between 10 and 40 quid.

You can bleed them for about a tenner, but it depends on riding. Not knowing how old he is and what he will be riding down. With mineral oil you could get two years out of it.

When I get to a bottom of a large hill mine can be smoking. Pads are about 10 quid a pop also per set.

A good place for spares is chainreactioncycles.com they do free postage:)

Why is everything so expensive ?

I can replace all my brake fluid for like half the price you pay, and mine is a 1200 motorbike ?

You must be using state of the art stuff MH ?

My bleed kit comprises of a clear tube, a milk bottle and a one way valve lol

We ask ourself's the same question, motorbike parts are half the price!

Atleast I can get a set of rear swing arm bearings for a tenner!

I used to have a set of louise disks on my old bike (got nicked a few years ago - theiving scum). Got a set of magura rim brakes on my hardtail and a set of julie disks on my other bike for the same reason as Mairyhinge stated - the mineral oil doesnt need to be bled as often as those systems that use DOT fluid.

As for the cost of that magura blood - I never use it! I always use LHM suspension fluid instead - cheap as chips :D

edc.

I never thought of using suspension oil, what weight are you using? that reminds me I need to service my forks!

I get it from a motor factors near here. Its citroen suspension fluid - think it only comes in one viscosity.

I have been using it for at least 9 years in the rim brakes without any problems. Filled them with LHM from new, only bled them about twice and theyve never needed it tbh. I just thought I would do it when I was changing the pads, must have been bored lol.

I filled the louises with LHM from new and they were fine, but the bike got nicked after 9 months so I dont know how it worked out in them. The julies had blood in them from new but when I do bleed them I will trying the LHM lol. Its about £3 or £4 a litre if I remember rightly.
