Electrical fuse box set on fire.

Not sure why but luckily was up in the morning when i saw it smoking and a glowing fire.

Can a normal sparky fix them? If so how much abouts?

Or Do I need to phone electrical board and have them do it?

Its just one fuse which is burnt to a crisp but looks like its done some damage to the others slightly.

Get a spark in. Need to be part p registered for domestic but they'd know that anyway. Depending on damage I think you'd be looking at replacing with a consumer unit. Check your home insurance to see if you can get some money back from them.

Off the top of my head; Curly, Mariyhinge or MickieD should be able to give you an approx figure.

Your smoke alarm must have sounded though? If you ain't got one give your local fire service a call & they'll normally fit one pretty pronto free of charge.

Sounds like you've had a loose connection on one of the ways, possibly shower/cooker or other heavily loaded way.
Without seeing it, it may be possible to replace the carrier and fuse, or may by the sounds of it need a new unit.
It will now need to comply to the 17th edition regs which means rcbo's and extra costs.
Price would depend on the size of unit and number of ways (fuses/mcb's)
I'd try yell.com for sparks in your area and as little pob says, will have to have part P cert.

yes new unit is needed...

i hit a wire yesterday...hanging up a painting (i didnt go more than 1 cm deep and it was in the middle of the wall) very bad wireing who evers done it.

I got a hell of a shock as well.... so i presume it was that.

If your wiring is that bad I'd go for a new consumer unit with rccb's, which you'll get with a new board if the sparks knows the 17th edition electrical regs. Could be looking at a few quid tho, doubt you'll get much change out of £400 unless you know anyone.

Id personally get someone in to check your wiring over mate, if you have drilled through a wire... Id think it will need to be changed...!
