the trick with wireless is dont get a cheap one, you will regret it. get a pro installer in if you can, i have a wired system.. ok you have to run the wires... single wire 8 core cable (or 6) to each room.. if you do it well, everything is pretty much under the floorboards upstairs and in the loft.. so not really any wires on show except door sensors..

downside with wireless is you have to change batterys and resync the detectors up again after a while.

ill think ill get wired then, ill be doing it me self as im a aspark but just dont no any one with a wireless one. cant you just charge the battery? i dont think i could be bothered resyncing the P.I.R's and that. how long do the batterys last, roughly?

not too sure mate tbh, not an installer. just installed my system, wired.

have a look on this forum, http://www.thesecurityinstaller.co.uk/Content/default.asp They got a really good forum, the people can be a bit offish but will get good info. where abouts ya from mate ?

it would be imposible to work out how long batteries last..

I could have 6 false alarms at my property a week... you could have 2.. mine could be active for 2 mins max.. your 2 could be active for the allowed 20mins.. with a strobe light..

You could however buy a solar panal alarm.. strobe during the night siren during the day.. these have onboard rechargables..

Wired - as the house is getting totally stripped. Get a decent keypad that has the functionality you want and is easy to use/setup. Also, check to see what level of installation, if any, will lower your insurance premiums etc

wired for me - bit like computer stuff always safer with wired

Wired every time. Especially as you are stripping the house down. I work in the trade and my experiences of wireless systems is not good overall.

They get a bad reputation because they dont work in some locations but are fine in others. You never know if you are going to have a problem until you fit one. If you have a wired system and get problems, then you have more flexibility to change things around( different types of sensor etc.)

Gory

wheather it an alarm or a data network... then wired is always best..

you could save money by getting wireing in at refurbishment stage and then call in installer to fit sensors later.

adt sales rep

wired wired wired m8 , no hacking no problems with thunder n lightning and no replacing pir batteries every 12 months so WIRED.

If possible, could you update the thread once you've chosen what equipment you are going for and cost.

I would make sure that you have full access to the alarm menu, including codes for the engineers menu to reset/reconfigure the system.

As mentioned before...WIRED. Had both in two different houses. Latest house is wired and never had a false alarm. If you get it installed professionally get it monitored too. We get 10% off of the house insurance. Lastly have a smoke detector added to it as well. Never need to check the batteries and should the worst happen when you are asleep, you'll be woken up by either the phone ringing or the fire brigade trying to get you out.

Wired

As an installer for over 12 years i would go wired everytime. Save yourself the cost of replacing batteries etc. Also as the house is being gutted it is an ideal time to hide the wiring.
Apart from me i'm sure there are many other engineers on here who would be willing to advise you.
The only other advise is someone stated getting a monitored alarm....Although approx 10% saved on house insurance you must have the alarm maintained plus the rental of the redcare(or equivalent) - a cheaper option would be an Auto dialler which can be programmed to phone numbers of your choice.
Any other questions are welcome

Wired Def

Phone Dialer is a good option, however you cant set this up to call the police.

just have it call your mobile.

I would make sure you spend some cash on an external sounder I love the Master Blaster

can be heard for miles lol, really does make a noise

also a good internal sounder, sound bomb 2 is a good en also

make some noise, they will leave and the Master Blaster will make sure everybody knows its ur house lol

127dB Master Blaster mains powered hehehe

112dB Sound Bomb 2 12V supply from panel

have fun

definately wired have had to wireless systems and both were shite

From the point of view of security wired has to be the way to go....
