Just noticed this on ebay,

30 January, 2008 | 06:20PM GMT

From 20th February 2008, we'll be changing the policy around how sellers are allowed to treat VAT in their listings.

Currently, we leave it to sellers to decide whether they include VAT in the selling price or add it after the sale at the checkout.

Based on strong feedback from both the buyer and seller community, we're changing the policy so that it will no longer be permissible to add VAT charges to an item after the sale. If you're VAT registered, and therefore must charge VAT on the items you sell, the prices visible to buyers in your listings must be inclusive of VAT.

Regards,

The eBay Team

All in all it means sellers will no longer be able to add hidden VAT when you go to pay for an item, many times I've been hit by this myself, think its good that eBay finally did something about it.

Excellent.... Sorts out any confusion over the final price....

Yup a good move, I've fallen for the VAT hiders before.

this happened to me a while back, i worked something out to be about £50 with delivery, then during checkout vat was added to the total, with NO mention at all of it in the listing, taking it closer to £60

nice to see them acting for the buyer for a change
