had this chat on Friday with mates at the pub... then had a look on the web to see if i can find out how or why money got its name Sterling,so ill probably have better luck asking on here.....: multi :

It's Sterling, not Stirling. The sterling was originally an old English silver coin made of sterling silver and weighing 1.555 grams (1/240th of a troy pound).

Sterling silver is an alloy of silver containing 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals, usually copper.
