Bucket of Water Set to Raise Money for Oxfam...
A plain old bucket of water on auction on the website eBay is on its way to raising over a thousand pounds for Oxfam's emergency work in Sudan.
The seller - known only as juss01 - originally put the bucket of water up for sale as a joke. But when serious money started to fly in, he decided to donate the money to Oxfam's humanitarian work in Sudan after he saw a film of how people live in this part of Africa.
Sam Barratt of Oxfam said:
" We are used to people raising money for us by running the marathon or donating clothes, but we never thought a bucket of water could raise so much money. It has taken us all by surprise and its great that someone's sense of humour can make such a difference . Oxfam has been working to provide clean water for people in Sudan for over 50 years and money is desperately needed to help people in this war-torn corner of Africa".
Money raised from the auction could be used towards buying the following equipment:
£ 59 could pay for a 50 metre length of water distribution pipe
£ 200 would pay for 85 Oxfam buckets, used in emergencies all round the world
£ 180 would pay for a tap stand - used in refugee camps - which would provide clean water for at least 1500 people
£ 1200 would pay for a water tank that would provide water for 750 people
£ 1500 would pay for a well to be dug and hand pump installed which would provide clean water for at least 400 people
The auction will close on Thursday 9 October.
