I've always been fascinated by the property market and would love one day to build up a nice little portfolio abroad. I don't know much just wondered if we had anybody who knew they stuff or any hot spots anywere round the world at mo. I'm part of property forum but not really active but get the odd interesting newsletter from them, which is always interesting read, below is the latest one i recieved.

Iraq and Afghanistan property
--------------------------------------

Started by “r***”, this is perhaps one of the most topical threads on the whole
site, taking in high risk investment in Iraq and Afghanistan, areas which many
investors would not even consider. While there are threads both in favour of and
against investment in such areas, there are some interesting comments from
members from that region of the world. The references to property price
movements in the area are interesting, although further details would be
required to clarify the situation. This is definitely something for investors
willing to take that little bit of extra risk, although a member mentions buying
land rather than property, which sounds very interesting..

If you are willing to take risks in the property market, then places such as
Iraq and Afghanistan may interest you, although they will not be to everyone’s
taste. Some of the most successful investors have made their biggest returns
from buying in the face of adversity, but it can take time. As and when a market
like Iraq turns, it will turn very very quickly with the “herd” mentality coming
into play. The shrewd investor will know that they will never catch the bottom
of the market, which is why many look to buy on the way down, maybe even
staggering their purchases as the market falls further and further - ensuring
they have a “position” for the bounce.

i think this is far too big a risk. lol

the troops will still be there fighting a useless battle, long after we are gone and buried

The best places at the moment to buy abroad are
Krakow in Poland " cheap as chips " and the student population there is booming, everyone looking for somewhere to stay.

also check out Bulgaria, i see lots of Brits going there now , again "cheap as chips " if you go for the mountains in the north, the winter is a big plus here as the skiing trade takes off, so you could provide lodgings and skiing facilities.

try this site as they are selling plots of land in bulgaria and cypris for £7grand a plot

http://www.buyland.co.uk/

the only thing i would say about bulgaria as i have looked in to is that it is a very corupt country and still very mafia run, so be carefull and be aware that the reason most of these country are cheap is cause they are very underveloped, not just in there infostructure but all the way there systems work ie goverement and councils, you will be very supprized how good our country is when you look in to other countrys. most of these cheap place are for long term investimate over ten years, and there is always a good chance the country's market could go up or down. the best place to invest in europe is country's that will be applying to join the eu in the next 5 to 10 years as the eu wont let dogy countries in unless they can prove they have legit goverments.
