No, seriously it is.

Last night my kitchen sink fell out of its little hole... Cant have made a loud noise other wise I would have been woken. Either way, all the pipes are knackered underneath and needs a plumber to come out and fix them.

To me, it looks like some sort of white tape has been wrapped around to seal the connections, a bit like the stuff you get with a new shower head but more hardcore.

The sink itself looks like it has been glued into place, the work top is stone (soapstone I think) and has the sink itself glued into place underneath.

I have called my landlord to get it seen to, but he is away for the weekend. Because all the pipes underneath are shagged, I cant use my dishwasher either. So no cleaning the dishes for me...

So, does anyone know about this sort of thing here? Its a bit out of my league to be honest. I have figured out I could probably glue the sink back into place, but the previous glue is still under the worktop. Does anyone know how I could glue it back? Also, any ideas on attaching a bracket underneath to retain the sink and give it a bit of a hand staying up?

If anyone has any tips on the pipes underneath, would be good to hear from you too - would like to get it sorted myself so the landlord doesnt get upset.

I attached some images of it here.

Cheers

IF you can get under sink why not prop it up with something[ yellow pages, only messing] No seriously prop basin up with something!!!!!!! Call out pros and bill landlord i would think that should be with in your rights?

yeah, left message for him - just hope he gets someone out here soon..

not going to pay for plumber myself, would cost an arm and a leg on the weekend and might not get money back...

cheers anyway though

Is the hole too big for the sink? As mentioned before sounds like a cowboy job, was it being supported by the waste trap underneath? Was it sealed?

No need for a plumber anyhow, just go to your local B&Q and get another one, but first you'll need to determine how its fallen through.

holy sh*te i thought u were joking i've fitted kitchens for many years and never heard of that happening obviously the hole was too big for the sink unless u were actually standing in it and forced it down.. its has cowboy written all over it even on the pipe work..u need to get a kitchen fitter /plumber to fix it right for u and u might need to get a slightly bigger sink that will fit in the hole with the rim outer lip sitting firmly on the worktop and sort the waste out properly for u too

just an observation mate but who in there right mind put an electrical extention so near a plumbed in item carrying WATER.........it either illegal or at least moronic (your landlord need a good seeing too)

just make sure you take many photos mate, and try to video the evidence.

There is a new series of builders from hell starting soon, your on a winner there mate, ive never seen owt like that before, a hole in the worktop bigger than the sink, ROTFLMAO.

Stevie wonder could have done a better job.

lol, cheers fellas

tell you what, I think I may have been misleading about the sink falling through - you see the lip around the basin? well, that was never above the hole - the top of the lip was glued to the underside of the work top.

Your right about the electrics - could have gone bang when it dropped.

on the question about the waste pipe, yeah it would have been taking some of the strain. there was nothing else supporting the basin other than the glue and the pipe....

I have a feeling the landlord will be getting it sorted this week, and properly this time. I think he did it all himself.

cheers for all the posts

Looking at the picture of the sink, it looks like it has holes round the lip, can you not put some screws in to seal it under the worktop???

just got an email from landlord, he is out of the country at the moment and has given me the name of the contracter he uses to get kitchen stuff done.

bignbold, I think the link you posted is my basin exactly, thanks for that :)

I will give them a call today and try and arrange for them to come round asap

thanks again everyone!

you really need to get them electrical sockets moved, surely that is illegal, water and electric don`t mix to good.

cheers phfiller

any ideas about getting the sink back into place?
if you can support the sink for a while you could use clear silicon underneath to refix it in it is very strong when cured and a cheap fix ,but it sounds like john wayne fitted the sink
