The misses has just been clamped at the local hospital (where she works!!) Anyone know if they can be removed and is it illegal to do so? Would they really pursue us for taking their clamp off?

Ive thought about grinding it off, but I thought damaging it may be a bad idea?

Any input would be a help!

Thanks

Angle grinder is the quickest way...

Illegal? Yes. Whether the clamp was fitted legally or not it would still be damage to property.

If firm that fits the clamps are not SIA registered then the clamp is illeagally and you should call the police of they refuse to remove the clamp. Not sure about whether there has to be signage or not...

If you follow the correct procedure, you will have to pay the fine then take it up with them - yes the law is an ass.

If you can get the clamp off without damaging the clamp then thats not illegal.

Never had to remove a clamp. so wouldnt know how to.

as the guy above said.. if you can get it off without damge then your fine.... you used to be able to let the tyre down and pull the clap off... probably changed design since i last had one.

you need to pick the lock - not as hard as it sounds.
and then you need to return the lock and clamp to the owners.

and make sure you have witnesses to the return.
the only laws that apply are theft and criminal damage - that's why you pick it & return it.

there is one interesting angle to this, if you have a clear notice in your window along the lines of:
"WARNING: ANY DEVICE ATTACHED OR CONNECTED TO THIS VEHICLE BECOMES THE PROPERTY OF THE OWNER"

it *may* put them off clamping it.

Used to be a trick when you could let the air out of your tyre and drive out. Don't think it works on newer clamps though.

you need to get hold of this guy:eater:

AGM= angle grinder man.

if its a chain one then u have to remove the ball joint if its a clamp over type as said before let the tyre down

Depends on the type of clamp. Some can easily be taken off by either cutting the chain or simply using a screwdriver and hammer on the lock. If she works at the hospital, why was she clamped?

here u go a hammer lol

I dunno but the camera person start heavy breathing half way through.

you used to be able to let the tyre down then spin the wheel to get at the wheel nuts and remove the whole wheel. Stick on your spare and away you go. Then phone up the company and tell them if they want their clamp back there will be a £70 release fee lol. Last bit was a joke but the first bit was possible not sure on todays clamp's tho.

dewalt 18v grinder will take one off in about 1 minute

but there is alot of diff types and some are easy some are difficult

poor fella in the video lol
