HI all

I promised to give you a copy of the staff release that was sent to all Virgin Employees regarding the launch of Virgin 1 and here it is...

Update from Johnny Webb - What's going to be on Virgin 1

********************************************

Hi everyone

On Monday I announced that we'll be setting the digital TV world alight this Autumn when Virgin 1 arrives in 20 million homes around the UK. Today, I'm really excited to announce some of the great content that we've already bagged for the channel.

My team has been travelling far and wide over the last few months to unearth the hottest properties in the UK and US, which we're going to turn into hits before anyone else. We're also looking at how to breathe life into some firm favourites...

Here's a taste of what we've got lined up, but don't worry - there's plenty more to come:

The Sarah Connor Chronicles - the kick-ass spin-off from the Terminator movies that bridges the gap between Terminator 2: Judgement Day and Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines.

It stars British actress Lena Headey as the heroine as she and her son John find themselves fugitives from the law, confronted by an ever-evolving technological enemy bent on destroying their lives, and possibly the world.

Every installment is like a mini-movie - with the first episode alone costing about $8 million to make. The series is packed full of amazing action, fantastic stunts and breathtaking special effects and it was the stand-out show at the recent season launches in LA - and we grabbed it from under the noses of everyone else.

We're going to be giving Sarah Connor the full on-demand treatment as well by offering Virgin Media TV customers the opportunity to watch her whenever and wherever they want. Catch-ups, previews and exclusive content will be available via our broadband service and our On-demand services.

Star Trek - It's phasers on stun, as Virgin 1 becomes the new home of the biggest sci-fi franchise in the world. We've bagged the rights to Next Generation, DS9, Voyager and Enterprise, and we're going to use virgin1.co.uk to bring it to life with fan-created user generated content and social networking.

But it's not just about finding the best US shows for Virgin 1 - we want to develop and produce our own hits. One thing that we know people expect from a Virgin-branded channel is a healthy dollop of Britishness, which is why we're going to commission lots of our own programming.

We've got a strong track record in commissioning for LIVING, Bravo, Trouble and Challenge, and work with an impressive line-up of producers already. We know that people will be lining up with great ideas for Virgin 1. There's lots to come but for now here's two commissions already in the pipeline:

Leo Houlding (we are still working on a title for this show!) - Leo is Britain's hottest young rock climber and an extreme sports addict.

He helped to kick Jack Osborne into shape - and is going to give a jolt of adrenaline to a group of Brits in need of excitement... Leo's a great example of the kind of new talent we want to bring to the screen.

Bob the Exorcist - this is our first ever commission from a US production company, and it's an incredible slice of real-life America. We follow the Reverend Bob Larson as he goes about ridding troubled souls from possession by the devil. Whether Bob's working with groups, or one-to-one, he generates some amazing results. Sometimes bizarre, but always fascinating, this is going to be talked-about TV.

And that's not all...

Expect more news from us in the weeks to come, as we secure more must-see content for Virgin 1, and reveal our plans for broadband.

To make sure your kept fully up to speed we'll be launching a Virgin 1 micro-site on Home. It's going to be packed full of news about new content, what the logo will look like and more on our plans for the channel as we move closer to launch.

That's all from me for now, I hope you're as excited as I am about Virgin 1. I'd like to invite you to join myself, Malcolm Wall and Celia Taylor for an Access All Areas online chat on Monday 18 June at 3pm so we can chat more about this great news.

Thanks

Johnny Webb

I aint a trekker lover at all but I know it has a massive following and could well be a major scoop for VM over Sly.

thanks johnsta, you did indeed uphold your promise to post that info.

if they bagged heroes off sci fi they would be going in the right direction and other actually very popular newer shows.

Family Guy would do it for me. Who needs Simpsons anymore?
