my mates giving me his little wreck. a M reg corsa 1.2

it was running but timing belt snapped,so no doubt there'll be a few bent valves.

just wondering though when renewing the timing belt on these do u need to renew the tensioner aswell like the astras do?

cheers

if its 8valve you will get away with it, but usually i see corsas with 12valves, if this is the case, few or all bent valves..

and yes the whole timing kit.

Lee I would phone round the scrappers, your bound to get an engine cheeper than fooken on changing valves ect, the head may also be fooked as well as pistons, not worth the hassel, get a cheapo engine to hoy in the fooooker.

just try a belt first m8 , its an easy job to change u might be lucky they dont alway bounce

it's a 8v 1.2. it's the 1.0l 3 pots thats 12 valve aint it.

think i'll have a look under it if it needs little or no welding i'll just try a belt as suggested by smirnoff, but if no good and valves and followers bent fook i'll scrap it and buy a running one;)

The 1.2 8 valver is a safe engine (i.e. no valve twattage occurs), stick a belt & tensioner on it and do a compression check. Should be OK.

couldnt be bothered with it after looking underneath it would've needed a bit welding and god knows what else for mot, then tax and try to remove some dents lol.

so i scrapped the heap and bought a little k reg clio 1.4 for £130. it's mot'd till jan 2008 and has 5 months tax on it. bodyworks quite tidy for a 14 year old car. the bloke said every other day he couldnt get the gears so thought the gearbox was shafted. but i just greased all the gear linkage and it seem spot on up till now, apart from it hasnt got any music......aaaaaaaarrrrgggggggg
