hi guys,

right, I have tried a number of psu but no matter what I do there is no power going to the unit!no lights, no nothing! unit appears dead!

i cannot see anything wrong on the board and it doesnt look like its been moded in any way either. Im just wondering if there is something that I can try and do to resurect it?

cheers for any help

Correct polarity PSU with correct voltage and current rating?

Test the onboard fuse.

It could be a firmware problem or many others; just because the thing doesn't light up doesn't mean that there is a power fault.

thanks for that spectre,

now I have tried a few 9.5v and 10v (and even with both polarities!) but no joy. Dont suppose you or anybody can confirm the ambit polarity requirements for future reference?

I didnt know that the ambit had an internal fuse m8. What does it look like? and I take it that its near to the power input?

nearly forgot, all the psus had at least 1.2a available

cheers

Putting a power supply with the wrong polarity can kill the modem. A supply ranging from 9v to 13v (DC), 800mA or higher will run any 100/120/200 modem. The modems use centre polarity.

Open the modem and try changing the big blue cap near the back of the modem and check the components at the rear of the board where you plug in the power. :)

positive is center, i would give up on it you can buy a new 120 for £5
