So my mate dropped this off and asked me to sort it for him...??? everyone has a mate like this lol

so any help would be good as I have no idea about this box firmware / settings anything really

if any one has an idiots guide or can help that would be great

When the box is in normal TV mode (i.e. watching a channel), press the blue button to show the "Network Server Config" menu.
Or Menu- settings - network con - then type 3453
The server info will appear.
Then enter your line

Flashing your Q5:-

Most boxes will come pre-flashed but for whatever reason you need to flash your Q5 here goes. Firstly you need a USB stick, as I type the latest flash is AppUpgrade_C_2014_01_14_N.kzip so this may change as time goes on. Add this to your stick, then using your remote go to:-
MENU>SETTINGS_UPGRADE SW>LOAD FROM USB from there select the flash on your usb stick (AppUpgrade_C_2014_01_14_N.kzip) and press ok. Once done reboot thats that done.

TO ENABLE YOU TO SCAN FOR CHANNELS

Same again there are different ways but here's a simple one;-
Go to your Q5 box and with the remote press;-
MENU>SETTINGS>NETWORK CONFIG
Now look at the second line down which is your IP address something like 192.168.0.***
Write this down as you will need it later. A good idea as well is with the remote using the arrows around the OK button move down to "PING GOOGLE" then press the red button. If you have an internet connection you will get "PING GOOGLE OK:**ms

Now go back to your PC or Laptop etc and start up the "Q5 Cable Channel Editor" program. Now look were the STB IP ADDRESS box is and type in the IP you previously wrote down from your Q5 box says "PROVIDER FREQ FILE" click on "SELECT FILE" and navigate to were on your PC or Laptop were your cables.xml is.
Once found, and selected click on the "UPLOAD PROVIDER FREQ TO STB" it should take a few seconds no more and you should see a small pop up box saying "UPLOAD CHANDB COMPLETE".
Now back to your box and using the remote go to
MENU>CHAN SCAN>PROVIDER SCAN
press on the top box and you can select your area from there then select green button on your remote or press on SCAN. The cables.xml will change as time goes on as new freqs appear, if you need to update the cables.xml you will need the latest cables.xml file and follow the exact same guide as above. I cannot tell you which to select to scan as I don't know were you live so that's for you to find out.
It should take a while roughly 20mins to 1/2 depending.

INSERTING YOUR LINE

again you will need you USB and a sub from were ever you feel. for this you need a simple notepad editor of your choice. ad you line into a .txt

example:-

N: hello.freeweb.org 23001 username-7005 4787560 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 10 11 12 13 14

copy/paste the N line your server issues you into your .txt file save and name the .txt something like myline.txt

Now copy this file over to your USB stick and put the stick back into your Q5 box. With the remote go to ;-
MENU>CA CONFIG>CAM SETTING and select the renamed file from your USB i.e. myline.txt then press OK. You should see (1) which means it has loaded you myline.txt .If you don't see (1) and instead you get a 0 files found then you have done something wrong while writing the N to your .txt or when you copied it to your USB stick , just go over the instructions step by step.

Exit right out and then press the BLUE button on the remote. Now you will see the:-

NETWORK SERVER CONFIG

Make sure you select NewCamd NOT CCcam from the PROTOCOL tab with your remote, most servers use mgcamd and with the Q5 mgcamd is embedded into NewCamd so select that. If you use CCCam you will cause problems on their servers and you will probably get kicked off and even banned.
move down to CONNECT ENABLED and ENABLE
now down to Save and press.
exit
If it already says ENABLED do this
DISABLE it then save and exit right back out then go back by pressing the blue button and ENABLE and save. You should get a "connecting..." message then if its fine an OK
**WARNING**
Sometimes when you turn the power off/on the Q5 box and boot back NewCamd might not connect automatically so you need to simply DISABLE it , save, exit, then back in in by pressing the blue and Enable it and save once again. It can take a few pops as well so be patient.
If your unsure if its you at fault, the server , the internet etc... just do as I mentioned above and you can also use the PING GOOGLE to see if your internet connection is OK and check a FTA channel to make sure your feeds OK

cheers mate

been using the mighty google all day looking at this box lol

hopefully someone reading might have it fingers crossed

All files needed should be here
Thanks to razzledazzle on TK
