If your ok with enigma 2 or quick to learn the Zgemma h1 is a good cable and sat box combined.

I personally have a VU+ Solo 2 but the father in law wants to upgrade his Q5 and only has a cable connection. He probably go up to £150 and did notice a few Alien boxes but have no experience with them. Cheers

Whats a TM and whats the Wetek play HD boxes like? Cheers

The TM-Nano-Se Combo maybe just slightly over your budget at around £129 but its no slow coach and is extremely well built Sat/Cable Combo box and feels solid compared to the Zgemma (Chinese Plastic feel) although they are still a good box on a budget.

You could also consider if you just require Cable only the Mutany 500c which runs the same chipset as the TM-Combo but is cable only and retails for around £79

Are the Zgemma boxes just as quick? I only require cable. The TM-NAno-SE sounds nice is there a model to fit a internal hard drive? Thanks

Quick Rundown

Zgemma H1 Sat/Cable Combo receiver runs on BCM7358 chipset with a single core 750mhz CPU

TM-Nano-SE Combo Sat/Cable Combo receiver runs on BCM7362 chipset with a Dual Threading 750mhz CPU ( twice the speed of the Zgemma )

Mutant 500c Cable only Receiver runs BCM7362 chipset Dual Threading 750mhz CPU ( AFAIAA same chipset )

It actually runs the single core 750MHz CPU the same as the current Zgemma range but also comes with 2 year hardware warranty as well and more (official) firmware support than the others and of course works perfectly well, so a little give and take but well worth considering.

Better than a zgemma? Is there a version that can fit a internal hard drive? Thanks

Personally i have never tried the Mutant one but have experience of the Zgemma H1 and as its a Combo receiver thats a plus point over it straight away and its also around £15 cheaper or there abouts, and the Cable tuner on the Zgemma H1 is very sensitive indeed infact on a par with the TM Nano Combo for sensitivity.

Thought as much i wondered why a certain online retailer had changed the marketing blurb

Really? I hadn't noticed but doesn't suprise me. I think said retailer is generally far to worried about what others are doing a lot of the time that he misses what's really going on.

Anyway another I have thought of which must be mentioned (and I've just created a ViX4E2PROJECT build for) is the Venton Unibox Eco+. Available with 3 different tuner configs including 2 x DVB-S/S2, DVB-S/S2 + C/T2 combo and 2 x DVB-C/T2 twin tuner (which comes with loop cable so you only need use one cable feed in) and this way can record one channel while watching another.

It's a 400MHz Dual Core (basically like was used in the Vu+ Duo) and runs very nice, much faster than the single core processor models and a quite unique feature in that it has a 2.5" SATA caddy in the back for an internal drive so no need to take the case off to fit, just two simple screws and the caddy pulls out, the drive fits in and then it slots back in, job done! Another with 2 year warranty as well and good firmware support. I've been working with this a lot recently and very impressed with both hardware and (to me) manufacturers development support.

I have just setup a Venton Unibox Eco+ for my uncle. Got a twin cable tuner version for just over £80 from ***** then put a 500gb hard disk in it. Cost about £115 all in, flashed it with Vix and it was spot on.

I used it for just over a week and was pleasantly surprised by it

Have you thought about one with at least a twin tuner to make full use of internal HDD you want to fit.

You don't need an extra feed for cable like you do Sky, just loop from output of first tuner to input of 2nd tuner.
