Hi
Im after some advice, i am looking for the cheapest way of getting cable into the kids bedrooms, the box's do not have to be HD as they will only be hooked up to 21" tv's they have to be fairly idiot proof (they are my kids after all) I have used DM500s/c in the past setting up and maintaining shouldn't be an issue. I currently have a multi room sub with VM so the cabling etc is in already, just want to save a bit of cash if possible.

Any recommendations would be appreciated

DM500C coupled with Commando and jobs a good un'

if your going to get a cline for cable then it would be just as well to get a hd box and to be future proof you could get the zgemma h1 for around 70 quide it has 1 sat tuner and a cable tuner now if you do get one of then then please just change the plug as thay are not uk standard you can set it for the cable to be first in your bouquet and has autobouque but its not ofter cable change things around tho im using openatv 5 on mine

There is also the Amiko mini HD and Amiko Combo to consider, would go for the Zgemma myself but if you dont want e2 then the Amiko's are an option.

Apologise for jumping in but I have been reading with interest. Is there a decent priced 2 Sat 1 Cable tuner box about just now?

Here are a few various higher end Enigma2 receivers for those interested in paying the extra, all of which I've had use with which will offer both dual satellite and cable with the right configurations. These all use 1300MHz CPU type top end (in terms of E2 receivers) chipsets and all have the extra options you tend to get with the higher end receivers which you perhaps don't on others such as internal HDD and transcoding support:

Vu+ DUO2 - Two tuner slots but with option of Dual DVB-S/S2 and Dual C/T/T2 tuners in single modules - and of course single tuner versions of the same, so allows for most configurations. 2.5/3.5" internal HDD option and transcoding support.

GigaBlue Quad Plus - Two fixed DVB-S/S2 tuners as standard and with two plug and play tuner slots which can be any comination of single DVB-S/S2 and/or DVB-C/T/T2 single tuner modules, so again allows for most configurations. 2.5" internal HDD option and transcoding support.

Opticum AX-QUADBOX 2400 (also branded Mutant) - Four plug and play tuner slots which can be any comination of single DVB-S/S2 and/or DVB-C/T/T2 single tuner modules (you can have empty tuner slots of course if you don't need to use them all!), so allows for most configurations. 2.5" internal HDD option and transcoding support.

EVO Enfinity X2+ - Two fixed DVB-S/S2 tuners as standard and one two plug and play tuner slot with single DVB-C/T/T2 tuner fitted, this will give you the 2 satellite and 1 cable/terrestrial option as standard, you'd need to use a USB tuner if you need 2 cable/terrestrial tuner options. 2.5" internal HDD option and transcoding support.

Errrmm!

What happened to the Xtrend series 8000,8500,10000 - Miraclebox Premium,Ultra - Technomate Nano3T

Nothing happened to them, I just don't have personal experience of using any of them which as I say my list was based on as I mentioned, well actually I do the Miraclebox Premium (not Ultra) but that was two plug and play tuners only so would only get you the single tuner each of satellite and cable/terrestrial and I don't think is being made any longer, replaced by the Ultra range which looks like it'd do the job as in 3 tuners are possible but never actually used one.

The other one of course I missed off the list, my beloved Amiko Alien 2+ (how could I forget!). That's 2 x DVB-S/S2 + 1 x DVB-C/T/T2 fixed tuners, external USB drive required for recording (Samsung M3 suggested), no transcoding option but all the usual features you might want, CrossEPG, AutoBouquetMaker, red/blue skins etc. and a fantastic picture quality, it's another to throw in there anyway and probably one I have more experience of than all the others mentioned put together!

Blimey you guys no how to throw off someone's research don't you!
Quite happily reading up on zgemma and the thrown with the gigablue etc options lol.
Seeing how one of my defining parameters was cheap and it's going to go in the kids bedroom I'm leaning towards the zgemma. I've put a speculative offer on one of the eBay listing. Definitely liking the look of some of the higher end boxes for the lounge or our bedroom.
Thanks, all of your replies are very appreciated.

Just to update. I won the eBay auction for the zgemma H1 and it arrived today. Have not had time to even open the box today so setting aside the weekend to get it up and running.
Off to read some set up guides.
Any pearls of wisdom always welcomed.
Thanks again for suggesting it... 58quid for a combo tuner HD enigma 2 receiver. Brilliant! If all goes well I can see at least another two being purchased.
