Further to jimmyq's post on info received regarding Keyrolls & VOD I closed that post and decided it best to leave that for information only and start this new thread for it to be discussed

Well from what i have read vod will be rolled in between 23rd may and end of june.
There have been comments made suggesting that it is only a matter of time before all premiunm channels become vod..
The main argument against this seems to be that the network doesnt have enough bandwidth to stream all channels on a vod basis.

I guess that would also mean they'd lose a few more minimum subs customers...and dare say some might venture into enabling talk-back, to see if it works lol :)
Almost forgot to say thanks to jimmy ;) Thanks :) :)

it dont work diamond renabling the talkback trust me ive tried it just wont authorise at the head end

Not my words but , take a look at this.

The VOD service is provided by a company called FilmFlex which is backed by Sony and Warner. I wouldn't expect the licensing to extend much beyond films.

I presume the software would need to be adapted for premium channels utilising the talkback validation to view the channel, but without the need to stream a specific feed to one box? Otherwise this would just not be practical.

Well that sounds quite plausable. If they're only supplying films from their library, then perhaps they'll struggle with live transmissions. Who knows??

well we all know were the ccs are heading if they put a 20billion pound bid for the premiership next season, {now thats predictible}

BIGJS post sounds about right, "but then again so does diamonds" {who knows}

This is another possibility that ive seen being disscussed this to me seems workable so there fore a scarry prospect.
" They will vod bunches of channels at a time, but without having to menu all the time, they will simply class it as " another package ", u sub to certian packages as u do now: lol : but all they will do is mix the packages to different channels so u subbing say base pack but introduce the higher frequency channels such as skyone. but eventully, all channels WILL be vod , u will be able to choose a bunch channels all individulay priced and watch them for certian amounts of time, with ntl adding discounts to more channel buys. This IS the future of ntl , but when is a different matter"

This would surely take a long long time to implement and with analogue still in a lot of peoples homes are they not getting slightly to far ahead of themselves.

if the signal is coming down the line but needs talkback to be actaveted, then would it be possible to make a talkback emulater, forgive me if i am talking bullsh*t but if you don't ask you don't now.

this is a cooment from a bloke in scotland

"when vod came in here there was loads of boxes got stuck on tune,& sum1 i know who works for a company we all know, was very very busy doing upgrades & replacements!!!

when they brought in vod here , they stopped keyroll for a while,, but as i say, you only lose front row/ondemand.
i was told that setanta was moving to vod next season, if it does that might be the start of losing more channels."

@jimmyp if the talkback has to be enabled am i right about the dbox's going to have a bit of bother too

also just wanted to confirm when talkback is enabled do they know exactly where the box is i mean 100%
cos i was told they dont know which house its in but they know roughly which area/street the box is because its all the same stream ie for one street
therefore they do a door to door in the street they suspect it in
ive seen this myself when they come round having a nosey asking if you would like to upgrade etc etc for example

dont let the fookers in!

anyhow when vod is live and kicking is there any possibilities ie to clone a box with a subbed one ? or something similar to card sharing? there must be a way round it guess we will have to wait and see when it comes

also when i was in germany a couple of weeks ago i met a technician there who reckons we can use the dbox as sat recievers by installing something inside them if this is true at least they will come to some use (im working on this at the moment)

Refering to JimmyP's post "it dont work - renabling the talkback trust me ive tried it just wont authorise at the head end"

Mate it's not just the talkback signal which is the problem..

the stb does need a valid mac address and ip address which is authorised at the headend really on this you need dnh301 as the americans hack the firmware and he reckons using something called cmd03 to authorise it but he reckons if you can see it you can aiuthorise it perhaps he maybe able to help as i dont really care no as im vod what you aint got you dont miss thats my motto
