Hello.

I like to watch wrestling. But, I can't always watch it live. So, I record it. But, now, Comcast Cable Company is telling me they don't offer that service any more. Instead, they have a DVR option for their box. But it doesn't have any way of writing to disc, a computer, nor VHS tape.

How would I go about making the analog composite output of the box record to a VCR? My friend talked to one of their techs and he said there is a chip inside the boxes now doing this.

Should I go with satellite? Are they too making it impossible to record TV?

I'm seeing an alterior motive with being able to control how you watch, & if & when you watch it, remotely. Having read an interesting writeup online about phasing out DVD and BlueRay, I wonder if they are going to use this to make people unable to record the truth when it happens, or maybe simply to keep an eye on what one is watching.

A buddy of mine told me all electronic devices are supposed to have a label indicating they are subject to interference. (eluding to big brother) Is that true?

When he orders WrestleMania, I thought he was purchasing it and could back it up. Now one is limited to a third party for storage. Thats crazy. Who decided this? What is the reasoning?

Sorry for all the questions. OK. Thank you very much! WWFan

PS My main question is how do I trick the analog out on the box to not think it is being recorded?

Cheers!

We're mainly a UK forum but we'll try to help :).

That is probably something like Macrovision protection which prevents the recording working properly. There are ways (hardware solutions) to get round it but they are specific to the protection.

Just for reference:

I see.

The video coming out of the RCA video output of the box shows just fine when viewing MondayNightRAW and even shows recording is active. But when I play back the recorded segment, it shows a blue screen. If I connect the VCR directly to the wall, it records no problem. Only, there are 17 channels to choose from, none of which are Spike, USA, nor SciFi.

Once, I bypassed a warning on a SuperNintendo playing DK. I simply kept trying disconnecting and reconnecting the video cable until it tricked it into allowing it to be recorded. (I liked the music soundtrack) But, on this cable box, I'm not having such luck. Is there an integrated video selector or some sort of hardware that takes video inputs and redistributes them that might hide the fact that I'm trying to record?

What happened to the cable company? So long as your not trying to resell at a profit, isn't it legal to make your own physical back up? Has a few rotten apples spoiled the bunch? Or, is it corporate greed? Or, is it big brother?

I guess my only important question this time is can I record TV to a VCR via satellite like if I switched to DishNetwork?

Thank you very much!

I used to own a video enhancer for dubbing tapes. I might try that again. It enabled me to record even though it was alternating to a dark screen. But at least it was sufficient. If I figure out anything I'll let ya'll know. Thanks for the search idea. I have to go now. But I will keep an eye on this forum from my prepaid phone. I cant log on from it but can see any new forum posts.

OK! Thank you very much! Cheers!

I suppose it depends on the copy protection but it might be worth a try :).

I was thinking of trying the HDHomeRunTech. My first response from silicondust explained how for around $2.00 a month, a card that talks to the cable company could be used in conjunction with this laptop and the new HDHomeRun TECH3. They also mentioned WTV files, some of which could be copyrighted and unopenable but transferable.

I heard a conversasion about a cable tech saying there is a chip that blocks the analog from being recorded now. If the cable can be viewed and heard... just not recorded... would a friendly, neighborhood RadioShack have a self-powered AV splitter capable of branching off a clean, recordable signal?

Thank you very much! WWFan

I think you need to find out exactly what the protection is. You might be able to search for some keywords along with the make and model number.
